The untimely passing of Shefali Jariwala at the age of 42 due to sudden cardiac arrest has deeply saddened her fans, family, and the entertainment industry at large. Jariwala, who shot to widespread fame in the early 2000s with the iconic dance number “Kaanta Laga,” left an indelible mark on pop culture. Following her demise, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, the directors behind the groundbreaking music video, expressed their profound sorrow and confirmed that there would be no sequel to “Kaanta Laga” out of respect for Shefali.
On Thursday, Radhika and Vinay shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, writing, “Yesterday was the prayer meeting. Saying the final goodbyes… with our first photo session together… Kaanta Laga – CD inlay card.” They went on to affirm that “Kaanta Laga” will remain unique, and Shefali will forever be recognized as the “only Kaanta Laga girl”. In their emotional message, they added, “You always said you wanted to be the one and only ‘Kaanta Laga’ girl. So we never made a sequel — and we never will. We’re retiring Kaanta Laga forever. It was always yours. It will always be yours… Shefali… RIP.”
The “Kaanta Laga” remix became an overnight nationwide sensation, catapulting Shefali into the limelight and solidifying her place in pop culture history. Years later, in a 2020 interview with Rediff, Shefali herself spoke about the profound impact the song had on her life, forever transforming her journey in the public eye.
