The IPL is certainly one of the biggest sporting events of the world and players not only earn huge money but they also have a good chance to become popular by taking part in the league.
The increasing importance of the IPL among the players has resulted in declining the importance of domestic cricket and nowadays it has been observed that many famous players especially those who have played for the Indian team have started ignoring domestic cricket.
Earlier Ishan Kishan ignored the repeated reminders of Indian head coach Rahul Dravid and secretary Jay Shah and didn’t play a single match for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy tournament.
Now Shreyas Iyer seems to be walking on the same path as he has made himself unavailable for selection in the Mumbai team for Ranji knock-outs citing injury.
Shreyas Iyer was a part of the team which played two test matches against England but he was dropped from the team due to his poor form and was asked to play in domestic cricket but he paid no attention.
Though he had some back problem while batting in Vizag, the medical team and the NCA staff gave him fitness clearance. However, as per the reports, Shreyas Iyer has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association that he won’t be able to play for Mumbai in the quarter-final match against Baroda because of his back injury.
On the other hand, the head of sports science and medicine at NCA, Nitin Patel has emailed MCA that Iyer is fit to play, he wrote, “Shreyas Iyer was fit and available for selection as per the handover report of the Indian team after the 2nd Test match against England. There are currently no fresh injuries reported as well after his departure from Team India.”
This incident is more than enough to show that there is a change in attitude of players regarding domestic cricket which is quite serious as domestic cricket is the foundation of the Indian cricket system. Let’s see what action the BCCI will take in relation to this matter.
