Shruti Haasan, who has made her mark across Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi cinema, recently opened up about the difficult start to her career in a candid conversation with Filmfare. Speaking about the early days, Shruti revealed that she was unfairly labelled as āunluckyā after her first two films didnāt perform well at the box office.
āThey had this whole myth in Telugu that I am unlucky, because my first two films didnāt work. But they didnāt realise that the first two films had the same hero. And they were like āWe donāt want herā,ā she said, recalling the perception that shadowed her initial projects. Shruti had starred alongside Siddharth in both Anaganaga O Dheerudu and Oh My Friend, two films released in 2011 that, despite high expectations, failed to impress at the box office.
However, Shrutiās fortunes took a decisive turn thanks to actor Pawan Kalyan, who showed faith in her abilities when others hesitated. She credited him for changing her professional path, saying, āThen Pawan Kalyan sir was like āno, we get her.ā And my whole career trajectory changed. Suddenly, Bombay started looking, and Tamil started looking. Do you know what I mean? Itās just the people and how they believe in you. It translates even creatively when they believe you can carry something off. And they are collaborative and communicative. It makes a difference.ā
Shrutiās collaboration with Pawan Kalyan in the 2012 blockbuster Gabbar Singh, a Telugu remake of the Hindi hit Dabangg, turned out to be a major success and played a crucial role in establishing her as a sought-after actor across industries.
Looking ahead, Shruti Haasan is gearing up for her next big project, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring superstar Rajinikanth. The film is scheduled for release on August 14, adding yet another exciting chapter to her evolving career.Ā
