Shubman Gill Warns Against Underestimating Bangladesh Ahead of Test Series

The Indian cricketer Shubman Gill emphasized that India won’t be taking Bangladesh lightly in the upcoming two-match Test series, starting on September 19 in Chennai. Despite Bangladesh never having beaten India in a Test, they enter the series with confidence after a historic 2-0 whitewash over Pakistan.

Speaking in an interview, Gill said, “I don’t think you can underestimate any international side. The kind of cricket Bangladesh has played in the last couple of months, especially in Pakistan, has been impressive. Their fast bowlers and the way their middle-order batters have absorbed pressure shouldn’t be disregarded. So, I believe it will be an interesting and intriguing contest.”

Gill recently played in the Duleep Trophy 2024, scoring 25 and 21 across two innings while opening for India A. However, he will bat at No.3 for the Bangladesh series, a position he has grown comfortable with. Initially starting his Test career as an opener, the 25-year-old has transitioned to No.3, where he has enjoyed success. In 17 innings at No.3, Gill has accumulated 618 runs at an average of 41.2, surpassing his average as an opener (32.37).

Gill’s role at No.3 will be crucial in helping India maintain their dominance over Bangladesh while being prepared for the competitive spirit the visitors bring after their recent successes.
