Her distinctive style makes her one of the most stylish actresses of the Indian film industry. Her ensembles seamlessly blend Indian sensibilities with contemporary fashion and her ability to experiment effortlessly with Indian fashion at international stage such as Cannes is a clear testament of her classy choice. Nevertheless, the beacon of style and grace in Bollywood, new mom Sonam Kapoor’s journey through post-pregnancy changes in fashion resonates with many new moms.

When asked about how her style changed after her pregnancy, Sonam admitted that after her son was born, her size changed , as it happens with other women. But she quickly understood that she had to embrace her new curves, instead of trying to shed those extra kilos quickly.

Here are some tips that she shared:

• Women should take it slow after delivery and should not be in a rush to lose weight and regain their size. Take care of yourself and your child first and take baby steps towards getting back into shape. When you do so, you actually start loving your curves and stop being harsh on yourself.
• Instead of covering or hiding yourself, try to enhance what you have.
• Accept the fact that post partum, a woman changes physically, emotionally and spiritually.
• Avoid crash diets and crazy workouts. Appreciate what your body has gone through and give yourself some time to bounce back into shape.
• Focus on breathing and stretching initially as you gradually find your way back.

Sonam strongly advocates sustainable fashion and believes that Indians have a tendency of buying clothes that can be worn multiple times and thus are already in line with sustainability. Her idea of sustainability not only includes the textiles but the practices involved in day to day working of the factories where garments are produced. Water harvesting, avoiding plastic packaging, etc. are things designers and manufacturers should keep in mind.

Sharing her post-partum experience, Sonam shared that it took her sixteen months to feel like herself again as she took care of herself and the baby. Her candid advice and embrace of sustainable fashion offer a refreshing perspective on body confidence and style evolution after childbirth.
