Sonia Gandhi’s Dinner Outreach Aims to Bring 24 Political Parties Together for 2nd Opposition Meet

Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge both attended the opposition party gathering in Patna. Sonia Gandhi is probably going to be there this time.

According to reports a total of 24 political parties are anticipated to attend the second conference of the unified opposition in Bengaluru, scheduled for July 17–18. Sonia Gandhi is set to ask every party leader to dinner on July 17. Indian Union Muslim League is a new participant, however following an apparent confrontation at the first meeting in Patna over Congress’s support for the ordinance issue, the Aam Aadmi Party has also been invited. Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, is reportedly planning to attend the Bengaluru conference. Dk Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister of Karnataka, had earlier made a similar claim.

Around 17 parties attended the Patna meeting. This time, the invitation has been extended to seven new parties: the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Kongu Desa Makkal Katchi (KDMK), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), All India Forward Bloc, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Kerala Congress (Joseph), and Kerala Congress (Mani).

The BJP previously allied with the KDMK and MDMK during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Mamata Banerjee, Sharad Pawar, and other opposition leaders were present during the meeting on June 23 in Patna. If the Congress does not support the Aam Aadmi Party on the Delhi Ordinance issue, the party has threatened to withdraw from the opposition unity.

What transpired between the opposition’s first and second meetings?

In the month that passed between the first and second opposition gathering, a lot transpired politically. Both Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar claimed to be the legitimate Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which caused the NCP to split between them. A key part in uniting the opposition is being played by Sharad Pawar. Praful Patel, the leader of the Ajit Pawar faction, said he felt like laughing at the first meeting because everyone was there with their own objectives. Trinamool won a resounding victory in the Panchayat elections in West Bengal.
