Sony warns 6,800 workers of data breach affecting personal information

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), a major Japanese electronics company, has warned current and former employees about a data breach. Reports say 6,800 people received this data breach warning.

The company said the hack only affected Progress Software’s MOVEit Transfer platform.

The data breach report traced the May 28 incident to a recently found vulnerability in Progress Software’s MOVEit file transfer technology, utilized by SIE and many other organizations worldwide.

“On June 2, 2023, SIE found unauthorised downloads, took the platform offline, and fixed the issue. According to the company, external cybersecurity professionals assisted in the investigation.

The company said only one software platform was compromised, leaving its other systems unaffected. Ransomware group “Cl0p” claimed Sony server breach in June. After hackers stole 3.14GB of data last month, Sony began an inquiry.

Sony spokesperson: “Sony is examining public reports of a security problem. Working with third-party forensics experts, we found activity on a single Japanese server utilized for ET&S internal testing.”

The Xperia 1 VI, the next smartphone in the “One” line, is also under development. The business has not divulged anything about the device, but its specs and release date have leaked online.
