The Indian cricket team is set to resume their international season with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home, starting from September 19. After a rare break, India will look to maintain their dominant record against Bangladesh, having won seven out of the eight Test series between the two teams, with one ending in a draw.
Bangladesh has never beaten India in this format, but following their recent triumph in Pakistan, they will be aiming to put up a strong fight.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has predicted a competitive series, although he still backs India, led by Rohit Sharma, to win the series. “Going to Pakistan and beating them is never easy, so congratulations to the (Bangladesh) players. But India will be a different kettle of fish; India, whether at home or away, are a fantastic side with a very strong batting unit,” Ganguly commented during a recent event.
This will be Bangladesh’s third tour of India for a Test series. Their previous visits in 2016-17 and 2019-20 resulted in 0-1 and 0-2 series defeats, respectively. While Ganguly expects India to maintain their unbeaten home record against Bangladesh, he also acknowledges the challenge posed by the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side, who come into the series with confidence following their win in Pakistan. “I don’t see Bangladesh winning; India will win the series. But India must expect good and tough cricket from Bangladesh because they are coming into the series with a lot of confidence,” he added.
We certainly agree with Sourav Ganguly, what about you?
