Rivalry between the cricket teams of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh has touched new heights after the timed-out controversy which took place in the match that was played between both the nations in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
In that match, Angelo Mathews was given timed-out by the umpires on the appeal made by the Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan. After the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama, Angelo Mathews went to bat but he was not able to take the stance in the required time which is 2 minutes as per the rule. As Angelo reached the crease, he saw that the strap of his helmet had broken and he asked for a replacement from the dressing room. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan had a chat with the on-field umpires and he made an appeal for timed-out which was accepted by the umpires.
Angelo Mathews became the first cricketer to get out in this manner and his family is also quite upset with the Bangladeshi skipper as Angelo Mathews’ brother Trevin Mathews told a leading daily, “We are very disappointed. The Bangladeshi captain has no sportsman spirit and did not show humanity in the gentleman’s game. Shakib is not welcome in Sri Lanka. If he comes here to play any international or the LPL matches, stones will be thrown at him or he will have to face the annoyance of fans.”
There is no denying the fact that Sri Lankan fans must be very angry right now.
