Akshay Kumar’s cameo in Stree 2 last year became a major talking point among fans and critics alike. Despite leading roles in films like Khel Khel Mein and Sarfira in 2024, it was his appearance in Stree 2 that delivered the biggest impact, cementing its status as the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time. With over ₹800 crore in worldwide earnings, the horror-comedy sequel has earned a special place in cinema history. This success has fueled speculation about whether Akshay will reprise his role in Stree 3 and take on a more central role in Maddock Films’ expanding horror-comedy universe.
Maddock Films recently unveiled its upcoming slate of films, announcing that Stree 3 will hit theatres on August 13. At the trailer launch of Sky Force, Akshay Kumar teased fans by calling the film his “dedh collaboration” with producer Dinesh Vijan. When quizzed about his potential return to the horror-comedy universe, Akshay hinted at his involvement but deferred the decision to producers Dinesh Vijan and Jyoti Deshpande, saying, “They’re the ones to pump in the money.” He added, “Aur Amar Kaushik ko direct karna hai,” seemingly confirming his role.
Dinesh Vijan later confirmed the news, calling Akshay “our Thanos” with a laugh. In Stree 2, Akshay’s character was introduced as the enigmatic leader of a mental hospital and the last descendant of Sarkata’s bloodline, pivotal to defeating the ghost. Fans are now eager to see if he’ll headline a standalone horror-comedy in the future.
Released on August 15, 2024, Stree 2 dominated the box office for over six weeks, earning ₹600 crore domestically. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film featured Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles.
