Subhash Ghai, a pivotal figure in shaping Indian cinema during the 80s and 90s, once dominated the industry with blockbuster films. However, his creative journey seems to have come to a halt, with his last project, 36 Farmhouse, releasing in 2022.
Since then, the acclaimed filmmaker has neither directed nor produced any new ventures. Recently, Ghai opened up about the reason behind his absence from filmmaking, shedding light on the evolving dynamics of the Hindi film industry.
In an interview, Subhash Ghai addressed the question that many have been asking—why has he stepped away from making films? His response carried a sense of disillusionment, reflecting his disappointment with the industry’s transformation. “It’s just one thing, I don’t see love among people, I don’t see love in the team. I see everyone just working, poor things,” he shared.
He expressed his concern over the increasing commercialization of Bollywood, where creativity seems to be overshadowed by rigid deadlines and profit-driven motives.
Subhash Ghai’s words offer a stark commentary on the changing essence of filmmaking, where passion appears to be diminishing in the face of corporate pressures.
