A succession of sudden heart disease fatalities in Gujarat and health check-ups prompted by the alarm have increased CVD medicine sales by 20% in Gujarat, according to a recent report.
Many young and older patients have gotten tested and started on preventive treatment despite experts not attributing all unexpected fatalities to heart conditions.
Gujarat had nearly double the sales growth of the Indian average of 11%, according to Pharmarack, a healthcare management platform.
October pharmaceutical sales were compared to October 2022 by the platform. CVD medications sold Rs 103 crore this year, up from Rs 86 crore in October 2022.
Alpesh Patel, head of the Federation of Gujarat State Chemists and Druggists’ Association (FGSCDA), said recent abrupt fatalities have encouraged those with comorbidities to get checked for early signs and treatment.
“Persons in the age group 30 to 40 years account for a large chunk of new customers who have got prescriptions for CVD treatment or preventive measures,” stated.
Statins, finerenone, and bempedoic acid sales increased. According to the report, antihypertensive use is stable.
Pharmarack’s vice president (commercial) Sheetal Sapale stated CVD sales had increased in the past 2-3 months. “There is also a significant jump in consumption of the critical care segment of cardiology which may be associated with surgical procedures,” stated.
Dr. Sameer Dani, CEO of Apollo CVHF Heart Institute, said cardiovascular disorders have been rising for years and may have had a similar gradient in prior years. “Due to factors ranging from stress to lifestyle, we have been witnessing steady advance in both population-level prevalence and number of patients in the past few years,” said.
The recent instances have raised awareness of health checkups, and OPDs have increased, said Epic Hospital interventional cardiologist Dr. Joyal Shah. Over the past year, OPD and indoor patients have increased. He also ascribed the rise in drug sales to experts’ preventive measures, which may require new patients to take medication to lower their risk of cardiovascular disease.
The trend suggests a combination of drugs prescribed simultaneously, according to HCG Hospitals interventional cardiologist Dr. Jay Shah. Patients receive statins to lower LDL cholesterol. Borderline-risk patients take these preventative drugs. Patients may take them with bempedoic acid and ezetimibe to lower statin dose and muscle soreness “said.
Conclusion
Pharmarack reports that sudden heart attacks in Gujarat have increased CVD medicine sales by 20%. This warning hasn’t stopped many young and old people from getting tested and taking preventive drugs. Gujarat’s sales growth was nearly double the Indian average of 11%. Recent untimely deaths have prompted comorbid patients to get checkups to detect early symptoms and treatments. New consumers with CVD treatment or prevention medications are mostly 30–40 years old. Statins, finerenone, and bempedoic acid sales increased. Apollo CVHF Heart Institute CEO Dr. Sameer Dani said cardiovascular disease rates have been climbing for years and may have a similar gradient.
