Sudha Murty Reveals Immigration Officer Didn’t Believe She Lived In 10 Downing Street

Sudha Murty, the famous Indian educator, philanthropist, author who also happens to be the co-founder of tech-giant Infosys and chairperson of Infosys Foundation recently appeared on the famous comedy show The Kapil Sharma Show and narrated some really interesting incidents.

Sudha Murty revealed that the immigration officer was not ready to believe her when she told him that she is going to stay at 10 Downing Street in London. 10 Downing Street is the official residence of the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who is Sudha Murty’s son-in-law as he is married to her daughter Akshata Murty.

Sudha Murty recalled the incident as she said on the show, “Once when I had gone, they asked me my residential address. ‘Where are you staying in London?’ My elder sister was with me and I thought should I write ‘10 Downing Street’. My son also lives there (in UK), but I didn’t remember his complete address. But I finally wrote 10 Downing Street.”

The immigration officer looked at Sudha Murty and said, “Are you joking?” She replied, “Nahi, sachchi bolti hu (No, I am telling you the truth). No one believes that I, a 72-year-old, simple lady, can be the mother-in-law of the Prime Minister.”

Sudha Murty has been conferred with the third-highest civilian award of the country – Padma Bhushan and she appeared on the show with actress Raveena Tandon and producer Guneet Monga. While Raveena Tandon has been awarded with the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri, Guneet Monga has won the Oscars for her movie – The Elephant Whisperers.
