It was in 1992 when Bollywood welcomed a star unlike any other, a man who quickly became known not for his looks but for his incredibly well-sculpted physique. Yes, that’s none other than fitness icon Suniel Shetty, who has redefined health and fitness in the industry over the past three decades, continuing to inspire the young millennia. Now, at 63, he is fit as a fiddle and remains a symbol of strength and dedication, proving that age is no barrier to maintaining a peak physical condition.
Suniel Shetty has often been asked about the secret behind his fitness. Recently the film producer, television personality and one of the most strategic investors in Fitness companies, Suniel Shetty talked about his diet and fitness routine on a podcast with Nikhil Kamath. Here are the key tips shared by the Hera Pheri Star from the podcast:
- Dietary strategy- The actor says that about 80% of his physique can be credited to what he eats. He believes in Quantifying food which means giving attention to things like how much one is eating and knowing about each macronutrient that your meal is having. His Master tip is to eat Home-cooked food that is high in protein and greens. He is a master of portion control.
- Limiting refined white foods- Suniel especially draws attention towards whites-salt, sugar and rice. Avoid 3-5 cups of chai. One may allow themselves two cups (morning and evening) with 4/5 gms of sugar. It’s best to avoid salt, but if needed, sprinkle lightly. Opt for moderation. Natural sugars are better than processed ones.
- Gym plus Pranayam- Go for resistance training at least three times a week. Including breathing/Pranayam with weightlifting/exercise which works best for Suniel. He recommends the combination to those who want fat loss, build muscle, longevity and general health intact.
- Focus on non-exercise activity thermogenesis – Don’t miss any opportunity to move. Walk more. Climb steps. Avoid lift. The minimum step count for anybody should be 6000 or 4km daily. Keep a cheek on weight, inch and muscle to be fit.
- Take care of Gut health- Eliminate food that may cause you to suffer from gut problems. This helps you avoid bloating, gas and headaches. Keep yourself hydrated.
Suniel Shetty’s approach to health and fitness demonstrates that consistency, mindful eating, and staying active are key to maintaining vitality and strength, even as we age. His balanced focus on nutrition, moderate exercise, and overall wellness proves that a sustainable fitness lifestyle can be simple yet impactful. Suniel’s commitment to fitness continues to inspire not just Bollywood, but anyone who wants to live a long, healthy, and active life.
