Legendary former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has slammed an online media outlet, Cricket Ception, for falsely attributing a column to him. The website published an article titled “A New Era in Leadership: Bumrah’s Captaincy and Kohli’s Leadership Revive Team India” on Friday, claiming it was written by Gavaskar.
Taking to Instagram, Gavaskar released a video strongly denying any association with the article. “Hi, this is Sunil Gavaskar, and I want to say that there is a website, Cricket Ception, which has printed an article under my name. I have to say that it is completely fake. I have not contributed to that at all,” he clarified.
Gavaskar demanded the website take down the story immediately and issue a public apology, warning of legal action if they failed to comply. “If you don’t do that, I will give the matter to my legal team. So, don’t believe a word of what you’ve read. This is a completely fake article attributed to me,” he asserted.
The cricketing icon also used the opportunity to advise fans to stay vigilant against misinformation online. In the caption of his post, he wrote, “Never believe everything you see on the Internet #alwaysverify.”
This incident highlights the growing issue of misinformation in the digital age and underscores the importance of verifying sources before trusting online content.
