As Karisma Kapoor doesn’t need any introduction. In the 1990s, she was among the highest-paid actresses in B-town. Karisma did not have a Godfather, even though she came from the first family of actresses. After a string of failures, the 17-year-old actress rose to prominence with roles in films such as Raja Hindustani, Hero No. 1, Dil To Pagal Hai, Zubeida, and many more.
In terms of her personal life, Karisma married Delhi-based businessman Sunjay Kapur in 2003 following a string of contentious relationships. Karisma’s father, Randhir Kapoor, wasn’t pleased with the alliance that her mother, Babita Shivdasani, had formed. The wedding, which was held in Karisma’s family home, the Krishna Raj bungalow in Mumbai, attracted a lot of attention because it was one of the most extravagant occasions of the year.

When Karisma alleged that Sunjay was not prepared to provide her with financial assistance, their 2014 mutual consent divorce became contentious.
Sunjay and Karisma started publicly washing their filthy linens and mudslinging each other after that. According to Sunjay, Karisma married him just for financial and material gain. However, Karisma levelled a startling claim against Sunjay, saying that he attempted to sell her at auction to his pals.
Surprised? It’s true that Karisma described a scary experience during her honeymoon with Sunjay during one of her appeals. According to the actress, Sunjay even made her sleep with his buddies and attempted to put her up for sale. He had even mentioned her price to one of his pals, and when she had refused to comply, he had struck her viciously.
When Sunjay Kapur and his mother were the targets of a domestic abuse complaint brought by Karisma Kapoor
As Sunjay once requested his mother to slap the actress, Karisma also disclosed that she had been the victim of domestic abuse. Speaking about the event, Karisma disclosed that Sunjay had urged his mother to slap her during her pregnancy because she was too big to fit into a dress that her mother-in-law had wanted her to wear. Karisma had even reported Sunjay and his mother for domestic abuse. In his statement, an officer revealed:
Based on the claims, we have filed a case and will investigate the situation. In the upcoming week, we will interrogate Sunjay and his mother
Following a great deal of controversy, Karisma and Sunjay chose to settle their differences peacefully, and in 2016 they were granted a divorce. Karisma was awarded a sizable sum of alimony following the divorce. According to a Mid-Day report:
“Karisma will get the house in Khar, owned by Sunjay’s father, retitled in her name. For the kids, Sunjay has to buy bonds totaling Rs 14 crore, which would come with a monthly interest payment of about Rs 10 lakh.”

Since Sunjay Kapur was the brother of Karisma Kapoor’s best friends, Superna and Mandira, she had known him since she was a little child. The person who set up the partnership between Karisma and Sunjay was Babita, Karisma’s mother. Randhir Kapoor, her father, was opposed to it, nevertheless. In an old interview with the Hindustan Times, Randhir explained his reasons for never wanting Karisma to wed Sunjay.
“Everyone is aware of our qualifications. We call ourselves Kapoors. We don’t have to chase after money. Not only do we have enough of money, but we also have a skill that will last us a lifetime. It is a third-class guy, Sunjay. I never intended for Karisma to wed him. He has never shown his wife any affection and has depravity in his system. He’s been living with another lady and feeding her bullshit. Everyone in Delhi is aware of his nature. I don’t want to elaborate farther than this.”
Samaira and Kiaan are Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur’s two children together. Following their divorce, Karisma was granted custody of their kids.
