Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I captain and one of the brightest stars in the Mumbai Indians camp, etched his name in IPL history during the franchise’s 10th league game of the 2025 season. On Sunday, April 27, Surya achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the fastest Indian batter to reach 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League.
The dynamic right-hander needed just 2714 balls to accomplish the feat, surpassing KL Rahul’s previous record. Rahul had taken 2820 balls to score his 4000 IPL runs, a mark that Surya has now comfortably overtaken. Known for his 360-degree batting and consistency across seasons, Suryakumar’s latest achievement further cements his place among the league’s elite performers.
Globally, however, the record still belongs to Chris Gayle. The former West Indies captain and one of the most feared T20 batsmen in history, Gayle had reached the 4000-run milestone in only 2653 balls. He continues to top the chart, followed closely by another IPL legend, AB de Villiers, who achieved the landmark in 2658 balls.
While Gayle and de Villiers maintain their dominance on the global list, Suryakumar Yadav’s entry right behind them is a testament to his explosive rise and sustained brilliance in the world’s biggest T20 league. As the season progresses, the Mumbai Indians’ star will look to add even more runs and milestones to his already glittering IPL career.
