The South Africa cricket team is currently playing its first ODI of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. Though it is not the favorites to win the tournament yet this is true that it is a talented group and it may also do wonders in the tournament.
South Africa hasn’t won the World Cup even once despite being a great side; it has come pretty close but lost at the last moment a few times because of which it has got the tag of “chokers” in international cricket.
Recently, the Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma gave an interview in which he said that he has also used that tag couple of times but just for motivating his team. He said, “I have used that a couple of times. But you don’t really hear coming from the team. I think there are guys who believe that it applies to this team, there are guys who don’t believe that it applies to this team. The belief that happens among the players is important. I bring it up to just make sure that we are not kind of squirting around the issue. If there is some issue, you will have to deal with it and mentally make sure how you are gonna deal with it.”
He further said, “But again, it is just that acceptance that it will always be within the team, within the group, the guys who will have to come don’t experience that. This is something that will just exist as long as we do what we need to do.”
In simple words, Temba Bavuma says that they will be called chokers until and unless they win the World Cup and we sincerely hope that it doesn’t happen this year as we want the Indian team to lift the trophy.
