Thalapathy Vijay Opens Up On Quitting Acting And Entering Politics

Thalapathy Vijay, one of the biggest names in Tamil cinema, officially confirmed his decision to leave the film industry to focus on a career in politics. Addressing his fans during the inaugural TVK Vijay Maanadu event on Sunday, Vijay shared his intent to pursue politics fully, confirming speculation that his recent films may be his last.

During his speech, Vijay expressed deep commitment to his fans and supporters, saying, “I have thrown away the peak of my career and I have thrown away the salary… I’m here as your VIJAY with a trust on you all.” His words resonated with the thousands who gathered to hear the beloved actor speak in Tamil Nadu. The decision marks a bold move, given that Vijay is one of India’s highest-paid actors. In September, sources reported that Vijay commanded a record fee of ₹275 crore for his upcoming project, Thalapathy 69.

Vijay also opened up about the criticisms he faced early in his acting career. “At the beginning of my cinema career, I was told that my face is not good, I am not a great personality, my style is not good, even my hair and my walk were not good. They shamed me like this,” he recounted. Despite the harsh feedback, he remained steadfast, focusing on proving his critics wrong. Vijay’s resilience helped him earn a prominent place in Tamil cinema, a legacy he now chooses to leave behind in pursuit of public service.
