Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated film, The GOAT, has made a historic debut at the Tamil box office, grossing an estimated Rs. 55 crore on its opening day across India. This achievement establishes The GOAT as the biggest Tamil opener ever, continuing Vijay’s legacy in the Tamil film industry. The film marks Vijay’s third movie and the fifth from Kollywood overall to surpass the Rs. 50 crore mark on its opening day.

In Tamil Nadu, The GOAT raked in over Rs. 30 crore, with final estimates suggesting a total between Rs. 32-35 crore. This massive success places the film among Vijay’s previous blockbusters such as Sarkar, Beast, and Leo in the elite Rs. 30 crore-plus opening day club. The possibility remains that The GOAT could surpass the current opening day record held by Beast, which grossed Rs. 35 crore. Confirmation of this will come once actual figures are fully reported.

Before The GOAT’s release, Indian 2 held the title of the biggest Tamil film opener in 2024, both domestically and worldwide. The sequel to Indian earned Rs. 26 crore net in India on its first day. However, The GOAT has now raised the bar for Tamil cinema in 2024 with its staggering opening.

The GOAT’s strong opening suggests a bright future at the box office, especially with Vijay’s loyal fan base ensuring sustained interest in the film. As more numbers come in, it’s likely the movie will continue to dominate Tamil Nadu while building on its early success across other regions.
