Delhi Metro constantly makes headlines, sometimes because of the fights that take place between the commuters, because of the weird reels that are made inside the Delhi Metro, due to PDAs, etc.
However, there are times when Delhi Metro makes news because of the problems faced by women while travelling and eve teasing is one of them.
Recently, Sanya Malhotra, Bollywood actress, narrated an old incident in which she was eve teased and a group of 4-5 guys tried to touch her while travelling in the metro.
She said this in an interview, “I was in a metro and there were 4 to 5 boys. And they were giving a bad vibe. I think women get to know when things are not right. Then they started teasing and they started touching. At that point, even if you get angry… I felt very helpless. I knew if I said too much, anything could happen in such situations.”
Sanya Malhotra further added, “We say ‘Why did you just listen to it all and not respond or do something?’ Situation aati hai haath pair fool jaate hain you feel like yaha se bas safe nikalna hai (When the situation arises, you go numb and only think of escaping to a safe space).”
She further said, “To my surprise, no one in the metro helped. I got out at Rajiv Chowk, I started running and they started following me. They were all 6’1, 6’2, very tall, very muscular men. Thank God there’s a lot of crowd at Rajiv Chowk. I managed to escape. I went into a washroom, I called my father up. I was like ‘Please come, pick me up.’ It was not a good day.”

Sanya Malhotra was born in Delhi and before moving to Mumbai, she completed her studies from Gargi College.
Before the government does anything, people need to change and speak against those who are involved in wrong acts.
