They’re Missing Variation: Kevin Pietersen Wants India To Include This Spinner For Lord’s Test

India has bounced back with an emphatic victory in Birmingham, drawing level with England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy after a record-breaking performance. Following criticism for letting the series opener slip away, India showcased a significantly improved display in the second Test, clinching a massive 336-run win. This triumph marks their largest overseas Test victory by run-margin, bringing the five-match series to a thrilling one-all.

Ahead of the match, there was considerable discussion regarding India’s team composition and the need for more attacking bowling options. However, India opted to rest Jasprit Bumrah, instead bolstering their batting lineup with the inclusion of all-rounder Washington Sundar. This strategic decision appears to have paid off handsomely, as the result has validated India’s bold selection calls.

Despite India’s commanding win, former England captain Kevin Pietersen believes the visiting side still lacks variation in their bowling attack. To address this, he suggests that left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav should be included in the third Test, which he feels would further strengthen their bowling arsenal. Pietersen stated in a media interaction, “They need to play him. India lost a Test match, won a Test match and I think they are missing some sort of variation. I think they are missing variation.”

Pietersen, who served as a team mentor for Delhi Capitals during IPL 2025, worked with Kuldeep and shared that they had discussions about how to bowl effectively in England, where conditions typically favor fast bowlers.
