This 25 Yrs Old Cricketer Is The New White Ball’s Vice-Captain Of England Team

On Monday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Harry Brook, the star middle-order batter, has been appointed as the new vice-captain of England’s ODI and T20I teams. The 25-year-old, known for his impressive performances, will serve as Jos Buttler’s deputy in the upcoming series against India, which begins on January 22 in Kolkata.

Since his debut against the West Indies in January 2022, Brook has played 20 ODIs and 39 T20Is for England.

Brook’s leadership experience is notable, as he briefly captained the ODI team during a series against Australia in September 2024 in the absence of Buttler. He was selected for the vice-captaincy role over other contenders, including all-rounder Liam Livingstone and wicketkeeper Phil Salt. Livingstone, like Brook, has captained England in ODIs, while Salt led the T20I team in two matches last year.

With his name in the running for both ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year awards, Brook is expected to play a vital role in the series against India and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The Champions Trophy will see England compete in Pakistan for the group stage, with the semifinal venue determined by India’s qualification.

Meanwhile, England’s white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, will feature as a specialist batter in the ODI and T20I series against India. The announcement was made by the team’s new white-ball head coach, Brendon McCullum, during a press conference in Kolkata.
