This Indian Cricketer Emerges As India’s Highest-Taxpaying Sportsperson In FY24

Former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli topped the list of highest-taxpaying sportspersons in India for the financial year 2023-24. According to a report by Fortune India, Kohli paid a staggering ₹66 crore in taxes. This amount is nearly three times the selling price of IPL’s costliest player, Mitchell Starc, who was purchased for ₹24.75 crore. Kohli ranked fifth among all celebrity taxpayers in the country.

In terms of overall celebrity taxpayers, Kohli followed Bollywood stars such as Shah Rukh Khan (₹92 crore), Vijay (₹80 crore), Salman Khan (₹75 crore), and Amitabh Bachchan (₹71 crore). His contribution places him ahead of other Indian sports figures by a significant margin.

The next sports icon on the list is legendary cricketer MS Dhoni, who paid ₹38 crore in taxes in FY24, securing the seventh spot among celebrities. Despite retiring from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni remains one of the top-earning athletes in India, primarily through his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Chennai Super Kings.

It comes as no surprise that Virat Kohli is the highest taxpaying sportsperson, isn’t it?
