The Indian cricket team is going through a transition phase as the senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have already retired from the T20 format. They will be playing in ODIs and test matches for some time but their retirement from all formats will also happen in a couple of years.
A young team headed by Shubman Gill performed pretty well against Zimbabwe in the 5-match T20I series and one of the rising stars is Rinku Singh who has the ability to hit sixes at will.
Rinku Singh is known for his power-hitting and he has established himself as a good finisher but the former Indian cricketer and former batting coach of India, Vikram Rathour feels that Rinku Singh has the ability to play test cricket.
During an interview, Vikram Rathour stated, “When I see him (Rinku) bat in nets, I can’t find any technical reasons why Rinku cannot be a successful Test batter. I understand he has made his name as a terrific finisher in T20 cricket but if you look at his first-class record, he is averaging in high 50s.”
Rathour further added, “He (Rinku) is also blessed with a very calm temperament. So all these factors indicate that if given an opportunity, he can develop into a Test cricketer.”
Do you agree with Vikram Rathour?
