TikTok news consumption increased from 3% in 2020 to 14% in 2023 among US adults. TikTok is now used by more US adults for news.

In contrast, Pew Research found that news consumption on many other social media platforms has fallen or stayed roughly the same in recent years.

Adults 18–29 are most likely to use TikTok for news.

Conclusion

In an effort to compete with Google-owned YouTube, Chinese short-video-sharing company TikTok is testing a 30-minute video upload function. First 15 minutes, then 10 minutes, was the company’s video upload limit. TikTok is one of the first applications to reach USD 10 billion in consumer expenditure. The number of US people who routinely get news from TikTok doubled in three years, with 18-29-year-olds being the most likely.
