The character, originally portrayed by Disha Vakani, has been missing from the show since 2017 when the actress stepped away to focus on her family. Speculation was rife that television actress Kajal Pisal had been chosen for the role, making her the new Dayaben.
Following these reports, pictures of Kajal dressed as Dayaben began circulating widely on social media, fueling the rumors further. However, the actress has now stepped forward to dismiss these claims, stating that the reports are completely untrue.
“I am already working on Jhanak, so this is entirely incorrect. Yes, I did audition for Daya Ben in 2022, and those pictures are resurfacing now. But as of now, I can confirm that this is totally fake news,” Kajal told Zoom TV.
Back in 2022, Kajal Pisal had shared an image of herself in Dayaben’s iconic look on Instagram, revealing that she had attended a look test but never received any further communication from the show’s producers. In her caption, she expressed her thoughts, stating, “In no way has it affected my career. Just that I felt playing Daya would be my biggest opportunity, but everything is about DESTINY. I’m an artist and will continue to give my best to upcoming projects.”
She further remarked on the misinformation being spread, saying, “As the media twists a lot of things with no accurate information like they are doing now with my statement… Maybe they had done the same with Asit Modi Sir’s statement on me. That he said, ‘Who Kajal Pisal is?’ Yes, it’s true that we don’t know each other either personally or professionally. Maybe Daya was a chance for me but certainly missed it… With due respect, I still look forward to working with you in the near future.”
Meanwhile, an insider has exclusively shared that Asit Modi, the show’s producer, has finally selected a potential actress for the role of Dayaben. The identity of the chosen actress has not yet been disclosed, but sources confirm that the production team is currently conducting mock shoots with her.
