For over 17 years, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been a staple of Indian television, drawing laughter from households across the country. But behind the curtain of its success, the show’s producer Asit Kumarr Modi has had to navigate through some stormy waters, especially in recent years.
In 2023, a wave of allegations surfaced from several former cast members, ranging from misconduct on set to complaints about unpaid dues — thrusting Modi into the centre of a brewing controversy.
Now, for the first time, Asit Kumarr Modi has chosen to address the matter publicly. While speaking in an interview, he shared how the situation affected him personally and professionally, offering insight into the toll the accusations have taken. “I have never detached myself from the actors. If there is any issue, they can always contact me. I have always been very honest and kept the show first. I have never thought of any personal gains, so with incidents like these, I do get upset, but it’s a part of life,” he said.
The veteran producer admitted that he’s aware of the things being said about him, especially by actors who chose to exit the long-running show. However, his approach has been one of restraint. Despite the criticism, he prefers to stay silent rather than engage in a public back-and-forth. As he put it, he does not want to react.
