Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Producer Reacts To Jaya Bachchan’s Title & Flop Comment

At a recent event, Jaya Bachchan mocked the 2017 film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, questioning its title and referring to it as a ‘flop film.’ In response, Prerna Arora, the co-producer of the film, expressed her disappointment over the remarks. As a long-time admirer of the veteran actress, Arora found the comment especially hurtful. She also highlighted that the film’s box office numbers speak for themselves and urged Bachchan to reconsider her statement.

“Let me first state that I am a huge, HUGE fan of Jayaji. For me, she is the ultimate. I can watch Guddi, Uphaar, Abhimaan, and Mili anytime, anywhere, and feel happy about life. It is, therefore, very hurtful to hear her say that our film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was a flop. Ma’am should check the box office figures. Our film earned a very handsome profit. It was one of the five biggest hits of 2017,” Prerna Arora said during an interview.

Arora acknowledged that the film’s title initially raised concerns within the team, as including the word ‘toilet’ felt like a risky choice. However, after much deliberation, they decided to proceed with it. She further emphasized that taking creative risks has always been a part of her journey as a producer. Additionally, she pointed out that Jaya Bachchan herself made bold choices throughout her own career, setting an example for risk-taking in the industry.
