Veteran singer Sonu Nigam has recently found himself embroiled in controversy following an incident at his concert in Bengaluru. A video that captured the singer expressing frustration over a group demanding a Kannada song went viral, sparking heated reactions online. In the clip, Sonu, clearly upset, halted his performance to address the situation. He clarified that while he has deep affection for Kannadigas and has delivered some of his most cherished songs in the Kannada language, he felt the manner of the demand was “rudely threatening.” He added, “This is the reason behind the incident in Pahalgam. Please see who is standing before you. I love you guys.”

As the backlash intensified, Sonu took to Instagram to issue an apology. “Sorry Karnataka. My love for you is bigger than my ego. Love you always.” His statement came just hours after a lengthier clarification in which he emphasized his longstanding respect for not just Karnataka, but for languages and cultures across the globe. Nigam also revealed that during the concert, he felt “humiliated” by a fan and was even “threatened” by someone “young enough to be [his] son.”

In the wake of this emotional response, singer Tony Kakkar came forward to publicly support Sonu Nigam. Sharing a heartfelt note via his Instagram stories, Tony wrote, “Sir Sonu Nigam isn’t just a singer. He shaped our childhoods, inspired millions, and quietly helped so many. He’s given his life to music and taught a whole generation. His music has united the nation across languages and generations. It truly hurts to see him misjudged over a twisted headline.”

Tony didn’t stop there. Continuing his message, he addressed how public reaction was being shaped by incomplete narratives. “His statement has been shown only in parts, leading many to form opinions without knowing the full story. This man has made lives better through his music and humility. His legacy deserves better.”

This incident serves as yet another reminder of how quickly public sentiment can be swayed by viral clips and selective reporting. As emotions run high, voices like Tony Kakkar’s call for a more balanced and respectful view of an artist whose contributions to Indian music have spanned decades.
