Bollywood had an outstanding year in 2024, displaying a variety of genres that happy audiences worldwide. These films, which ranged from emotional dramas to stunning action extravaganza, left an indelible mark. Here are the top 7 blockbusters that dominated the box office and the hearts of audiences.
The Top 7 Blockbusters of 2024
1: Pushpa: The Rule (Hindi)
Box office collection: Rs 1,700 crore+ (Rs 170 billion+)
The fact that a Telugu-dubbed movie is at the top of the list of the year’s highest-grossing Hindi movies is just incredible.
Since its release on December 5, the Allu Arjun starrer has had a fantastic run and continues to draw in audiences.
2: Kalki 2898 AD (Hindi)
Box office collection: Rs 1,200 crore (Rs 12 billion)
The first 2024 release from the south to perform well in Hindi was Kalki 2898 AD.
The pan-Indian star cast of Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan ensured the film got off to a good start and stayed on track.
3: Stree 2
Box office collection: Rs 880 crore (Rs 8.8 billion)
One expected Stree 2 to do well, but no one could have predicted that it would not only score a half-century on its first day but also easily surpass the Rs 600 crore (Rs 6 billion) obstacles.
The Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor film grossed four times as much as the original.
4: Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
Box office collection: Rs 280 crore (Rs 2.8 billion)
Diwali release. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 quickly joined the Rs 200 crore club (Rs 2 billion).
The horror comedy was rereleased alongside Rohit Shetty’s Singham. Had it come alone, the Kartik Aaryan, Madhuri Dixit, and Vidya Balan films would have easily reached the Rs 300 crore club (Rs 3 billion).
5: Singham Again
Box office collection: Rs 270 crore (Rs 2.7 billion)
If this Ajay Devgn-Rohit Shetty franchise had been released independently, it may have grossed more than Rs 300 crore (Rs 3 billion).
Because it was an expensive film with multiple stars, having an open playground would have aided its box office success.
6: Fighter
Box office collection: Rs 206 crore (Rs 2.06 billion)
Fighter, another film that could not live up to its full promise, was shot on a good scale. The Siddharth Anand-directed film, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, was stylish.
Nonetheless, it did not result in the expected opening.
7: Shaitaan
Box office collection: Rs 150 crore (Rs 1.5 billion)
Despite its rapid production, Shaitaan was a psychological-supernatural-horror film that wowed at the box office.
R Madhavan delivered an excellent performance in the title role, serving as the ideal antagonist for the Ajay Devgn-led drama.
The Vikas Behl-directed film grossed Rs 150 crore (Rs 1.5 billion). Now, a sequel is in the works.
