It has been more than three years since KL Rahul last appeared in a T20 International for India. His final outing came during the semifinal loss to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup held in Australia. Since then, India not only rebuilt their side but also went on to win the T20 World Cup the following year without him. Now, as the next edition of the tournament approaches—this time on home soil—Rahul is determined to make his way back into the squad.

With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Rahul knows the path to selection won’t be easy. He’s aware that he must prove his value once again, and he seems to be doing just that through his performances in the ongoing IPL 2025. Representing Delhi Capitals, the seasoned batter has already accumulated 539 runs, boasting an impressive strike rate of 149.72. This resurgence in form may well serve as a timely reminder to selectors of what he still brings to the shortest format.

Across 72 T20 Internationals so far, the 33-year-old has amassed 2265 runs, a testament to his experience and capability at the top of the order. But Rahul remains grounded, focusing on the present rather than making assumptions about selection. “Yes, I want to get back in the T20 team and the World Cup is in my mind, but for now it’s just trying to enjoy how I’m playing right now,” he shared during an appearance on a sports channel.

Looking back on his career, KL Rahul also reflected on his approach to team roles, stating that he has always been adaptable to what the team requires rather than seeking a fixed position. It’s this mindset, combined with his current form, that could bolster his chances as India begins shaping its squad for the marquee event at home.
