Apple accused Rivos of stealing its computer chip trade secrets. However, the two have reached a settlement.
According to a Friday joint court filing in California federal court, Apple has started a new tab intended to resolve a case accusing tech startup Rivos of stealing its computer-chip trade secrets. The firms told the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, new tab, that they had “signed an agreement that potentially settles the case,” allowing Apple to investigate Rivos’ systems and recover personal information.
Requests for settlement details from Apple and Rivos were not immediately responded to.
2022 Apple sued Rivos, a “stealth” startup. It claimed Mountain View, California-based Rivos had employed scores of its engineers and utilized its secret information to develop competing “system-on-chip” (SoC) technology.
SoCs have central processing units and graphic processing units on a single chip. Apple claimed in the complaint that its SoC designs “revolutionized the personal and mobile computing worlds.” after billions of dollars and a decade of study.
Rivos said Apple “sought to punish Rivos and any Apple employees who may seek to work there since the moment Apple learned about the promising startup.” Apple was countersued for unfair competition last September.
The case against six former Apple employees who joined Rivos was settled last month.
