The Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir was shaken by two earthquakes on Monday. The first earthquake, which had a Richter scale magnitude of 4.9, happened at 5:38 am, according to the National Center for Seismology. There are currently no immediate reports of any damage, according to the authorities.
In the Doda region, the epicentre was estimated to be located 10 kilometres beneath the earth’s surface. The NCS reported that it happened near latitude 33.15 degrees north and longitude 75.68 degrees east. It posted information on the earthquake on Twitter. “Earthquake of Magnitude:4.9, Occurred on 10-07-2023, 05:38:54 IST, Lat: 33.15 & Long: 75.68, Depth: 10 Km, Region: Doda, Jammu and Kashmir (sic),” it said.
The second earthquake
The second earthquake, which had a Richter scale value of 3.6, happened around 5:43 in the morning. The earth’s epicentre was located 8 kilometres below the surface. It happened near the Doda region at latitude 33.15 degrees north and longitude 75.70 degrees east.
Doda has experienced numerous tremors during the past month.
Twelve tremors of varying magnitude have rattled Doda since June of this year, according to officials. On June 13, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck the neighbourhood, damaging breaches in hundreds of structures, including homes.
A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck Katra town in Jammu and Kashmir earlier on June 14. The National Centre for Seismology reports that the earthquake struck around 2:20, 10 km beneath the surface, 81 km ENE of Katra.
According to sources, the Delhi-NCR region and certain portions of north India experienced earthquake tremors the day before, on June 13. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reports that a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Jammu and Kashmir 30 kilometres southeast of Kishtwar. For about twenty seconds, there were vibrations.
