Indian spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been in sensational form in the ongoing five-match T20I series against England, claiming 10 wickets in just three matches. The 33-year-old from Tamil Nadu has consistently troubled the English batters with his sharp variations and precise line and length.
In the series opener on January 22 in Kolkata, Chakaravarthy made an immediate impact, picking up three wickets for 23 runs in his four-over spell. He continued his fine run in the second T20I at his home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where he scalped two wickets for 38 runs.
However, his most remarkable performance came in the third T20I on January 28, where he dismantled England’s batting lineup with a stunning 5-wicket haul for just 24 runs. Despite his heroics, India fell short, losing the match by 26 runs.
With 10 wickets to his name, Varun Chakaravarthy currently leads the wicket-taking charts in the series. As the action shifts to Pune’s MCA Stadium for the fourth T20I on Friday, he has the opportunity to etch his name in the record books.
If he manages to claim at least three more wickets, he will surpass his own record for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in a bilateral T20I series. Given his current form, another match-winning spell could well be on the horizon.
