The makers of Chhaava, a historical drama featuring Vicky Kaushal, have announced a new release date for the film. Originally slated for December 6, 2024, the film’s release has been postponed to February 14, 2025, strategically avoiding a box office clash with Allu Arjun’s highly anticipated Pushpa 2: The Rule.
By choosing February 14, Valentine’s Day, Chhaava also aligns its release with the lead-up to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, celebrated on February 19, 2025. This timing underscores the historical and cultural importance of the film, which revolves around the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the eldest son of Maratha empire founder Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
While Vicky Kaushal portrays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the historical drama, Rashmika Mandanna plays Yesubai Bhonsale, Sambhaji’s wife. Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Chhaava promises a compelling exploration of Maratha history and valor.
The decision to reschedule reflects a strategic move by the filmmakers to ensure maximum box office potential. Releasing alongside Pushpa 2, a pan-India blockbuster sequel, could have diluted the attention and revenues for Chhaava.
