Actor Vikrant Massey recently addressed the Justice Hema Committee report, calling for capital punishment in cases of severe crimes like rape. During an interview, he emphasized that a woman’s safety extends beyond film sets and expressed his discomfort with the disparity in security between men and women.
“I think I would just not narrow it down to a film set. Without discrediting what happened in the Malayalam film industry or the Hema Committee’s findings, there are equally important issues that need attention,” he said.
Massey voiced his concern over the broader issue of women’s safety, stating, “As a man, I feel ashamed when I say that I am far more secure than the opposite sex. Unfortunately, they are not as safe as I am.” He called for collective action, suggesting that the societal change needed to ensure women’s safety must begin with individual responsibility.
Vikrant Massey also argued in favor of capital punishment for specific crimes, particularly those involving minors. “Depending on the case, capital punishment could be granted. In the case of minors, it definitely should be fast-tracked,” he explained. While advocating for this measure, he also acknowledged the need to consider Human Rights perspectives in the debate.
Currently, Vikrant Massey can be seen in the thriller Sector 36. Directed by Aditya Nimbalkar, the film follows Inspector Ram Charan Pandey (played by Deepak Dobriyal), who transforms from a passive officer to a relentless pursuer of justice. Vikrant Massey plays Prem Singh, a mysterious and dangerous character who becomes the focus of Ram Charan’s intense pursuit. The tense dynamic between the two characters forms the core of the film’s plot.
