Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag did not hold back while analyzing Chennai Super Kings’ ongoing struggles in IPL 2025. Following their fourth consecutive defeat at home, Sehwag said it appeared as though the CSK players were more eager to finish their matches quickly and head back home, showing little willingness to fight it out at the crease. He also pointed out that Ravindra Jadeja, with a strike rate well below expectations, needed to adjust his approach by staying longer at the wicket rather than throwing away his wicket early.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Sehwag shared his sharp observation of CSK’s body language. “Wasn’t I saying that I feel like going home midway through the tournament. CSK’s batters are also perhaps thinking that way. Their batters are wondering when they will get back home,” he remarked, suggesting a lack of hunger and intent from the Chennai batters. He further emphasized the need for one player to take responsibility in difficult batting conditions, highlighting Jadeja’s role. “When will the tournament end? At least one of them should have taken responsibility. Jadeja has got a useless strike rate, but at least try to stay out there till the 15th or 18th over,” Sehwag added.

Jadeja’s performance with the bat this season has been underwhelming. After nine matches, he has managed a strike rate of 125.76, which falls short of his career average of 129.56, a statistic that only underlines Sehwag’s criticism.

Amid their deepening troubles, CSK made notable changes to their batting line-up by dropping Rachin Ravindra from the playing XI. In an attempt to address the void at the top, Ayush Mhatre was promoted to open the innings, while for their clash against Hyderabad, the team opted for an experimental move by sending Sam Curran at No. 3. However, these adjustments have yet to yield positive results, leaving Chennai firmly anchored at the bottom of the points table as their dismal campaign continues.
