Karisma Kapoor, a prominent figure in Indian cinema, was at the center of a highly anticipated union in 2002 when she became engaged to Abhishek Bachchan. This engagement, which would have seen her join the esteemed Bachchan family, surprisingly dissolved just months later.
The following year, in 2003, Karisma married Delhi-based industrialist Sunjay Kapur. However, their marriage was not destined to last, culminating in a protracted and acrimonious legal separation.
The couple, who share two children, finalized their divorce in 2016. This separation garnered significant media attention due to the grave accusations exchanged between the two. Karisma accused Sunjay of domestic abuse, while Sunjay countered with allegations that she had married him solely for financial gain.
Throughout their marital troubles, Karisma’s father, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, consistently expressed his disapproval of the union. In a 2016 interview with the Hindustan Times, Randhir publicly denounced Sunjay, stating, “Sunjay is a third-class man… Everyone knows our credentials. We are Kapoors. We don’t need to run after anyone’s money. We have been blessed with not only money, but our talent can support us for the rest of our lives.”
Sunjay Kapur recently passed away after he mistakenly swallowed a bee while playing Polo.
