Los Angeles is currently grappling with devastating wildfires that have led to widespread destruction and loss. The Palisades and Eaton fires are among the most destructive, with over 5,000 structures destroyed and thousands evacuated.
Amidst this crisis, conspiracy theories have emerged, particularly from right-wing figures, attributing the severity of the fires to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). Critics, including President-elect Donald Trump and Elon Musk, have targeted LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley, the department’s first female and LGBTQ leader, alleging that a focus on DEI compromised firefighting effectiveness.
In parallel, Los Angeles is advancing its SmartLA 2028 initiative, aiming to enhance urban living through technology. This strategy focuses on infrastructure data tools, digital services, and sustainable solutions to improve residents’ quality of life.
However, this initiative coupled with some other factors has given an impression that these fires are pre-planned.
Firstly, around 3-4 months back a major insurance company cancelled the insurance policies of many house owners of that area and the water supply was also reported as not adequate in the area. Many citizens complained about the sparks that were coming out from the electrical wires which were causing fire but no satisfying measure was taken by the authorities.
There are many netizens who are claiming that all this is happening in order to facilitate the process of land grabbing because without insurance, the house owners won’t be able to re-build their houses and they will be left with the option of selling their lands only. This will help in Smart LA project because then it will be easy for the authorities to re-design the city as per their requirements of Smart LA.
Here are some videos and tweets which you should see:
