Triumph After Turmoil: Inspiring story of Vivek Raina who built Rs. 400 crore internet firm Excitel

0

Inspiring story of Vivek Raina, who founded internet company Excitel, once worked for Hathway for just Rs 10,000 per month. His company now clocks a turnover of Rs 400 crore.

Vivek Raina’s serves as an example of the strength of resiliency, tenacity, and education. Entrepreneurs should draw inspiration from his experience, which also highlights how crucial persistence is to success. Vivek Raina overcame enormous obstacles by staying dedicated to his objectives and creating a prosperous company that is changing India’s internet industry.

Vivek Raina was born in Srinagar, Kashmir, but due to militancy and conflict in 1990, he was forced to escape his home during the Kashmiri Pandit Exodus. His four children left their luxurious Jammu home to live in a one-room rental apartment. Vivek was raised in their ancestral home by parents who made education the only priority in their children’s lives. However, tragedy occurred in Srinagar when Vivek was 13 years old, forcing the family to move to Jammu. Despite these difficulties, Vivek completed an MBA program and worked for a number of ISPs before founding Excitel in 2015 with partners from Bulgaria. The Delhi-based company, which has a revenue of Rs 400 crore, is present in 30 Indian cities.

Vivek remembers the challenging transition his family underwent when they moved to a new city that was very dissimilar from their previous one. Summers in Srinagar were a welcome respite from the severe and snowy winters that forced them indoors before they moved to Jammu. However, they were exposed to the oppressive heat they had never known during their first summer in Jammu. The family had to relocate regularly, changing one-room residences every few months because it was challenging to get along with landlords.

As their father having to work part-time to support them financially, Vivek and his family found it difficult to adjust to life in Jammu. Rent costs increased, and they had to make considerable lifestyle changes.

Vivek’s family was disappointed by his Class 12 grade, which he only managed to earn with a mere 55%. Vivek studied Electronics and Communication Engineering at Government College of Jammu between 1994 and 1997 in an effort to impress his father. He enrolled in a correspondence program at Jammu University for a BA in English Literature around that time because he wanted to study English literature. He later completed his MBA in Marketing at the University of Pune.

As a Business Development Officer for the internet business Hathway, Vivek’s initial position involved selling broadband connections to small offices. Prior to leaving the company in 2004 and joining Reliance, he earned a starting salary of Rs 10,000 that was later increased to Rs 16,000 in total.

Vivek started working for Reliance as the Manager of Business Development and sold IPTV (Internet Protocol Television). In 2008, he left Reliance and returned to Hathway as the Business Head for North India.

Later, in 2009, Vivek changed jobs, becoming the Regional Head for North and Central India at Broadband Pacenet, a cable television firm that was a division of Digicable. He continued to work there until 2015, earning a salary of Rs 30 lakh annually.

Vivek got the chance to meet some Bulgarian business owners at this time who were looking for chances in India after selling their online firm there.

In 2015, as a result of this encounter, Vivek  Raina and his Bulgarian business partners co-founded Excitel.

They were able to raise Rs 12 crore from Neveq Ventures to launch the business, and they raised Rs 100 crore once more in 2021 to continue Excitel’s expansion.

Vivek claims that although their initial goal was to make 50,000 contacts in the first year, they ended up making 1 lakh relationships instead. They earned Rs 5 crore in the first year.

Their business now thrives across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.

Their corporate office, which employs about 3000 people, is in Delhi’s Aerocity. There are seven additional offices scattered throughout India.

TMKOC: Sohail Ramani Hits Back At Jennifer Mistry Over Allegations

“If she had so many issues, why did she come back in 2016,” asks TMKOC operations head Sohail Ramani.

Sohail Ramani, the operations head of the TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has now hit back at the actress Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal and asked that if there were so many problems, then why she rejoined the show in 2016.

Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal has leveled the charges of sexual harassment against the producer Asit Kumarr Modi, Sohai Ramani and executive producer Jatin Bajaj. In an interview, Sohail stated, “If Jennifer had so many problems with the show and the producer, why did she come back and join us in 2016. Nobody had forced her. Why did she message Asit bhai ki, ‘Main sudhar gayi hoon, sir mujhe ek mauka do’. So, I am unable to understand her issues.”

He further adds that he is not able to understand why Jennifer has dragged his name in this matter. He stated, “I don’t understand what grudge she holds against me. I was only doing my job. As part of the company protocol, I did what I had to when she left the set for personal reasons without informing. She even misbehaved. If you work for a company, there are certain rules that you need to follow. If you’ll come late or do things that affect smooth functioning, the production team will speak out. Humne toh daanta bhi nahi. Sirf pyaar se samjhaaya tha. Jab repetitive hone laga, toh humne daanta. So, all this is nothing but a publicity stunt.”

Though Sohail Ramani also says that he has evidences to prove that the allegations leveled on him are baseless, he didn’t share any evidence with the media.

In response to Sohail Ramani’s statement, Jennifer stated, “There were a few things that happened here and there and when I tried to raise my voice against it, mujhe chup kara dia gaya. Other than that, the only issue I faced was in january 2013, when they called me back four day after my father’s death. But that was all. Problems started after October 2018 and that incident of Asit sexually harassing me was around March 2019. I have phone call recordings of Sohail harassing me, shouting at me and misbehaving.”

Deloitte resigns as edtech giant BYJU’S auditor; 3 board members also resign

0

Deloitte, the auditors of Byju’s, has resigned due to a delay in financial statement filing. The company’s financial statements are long delayed, preventing Deloitte from starting an audit. Three board members of the edtech giant also resigned.

Deloitte, Byju’s auditors, resigned due to a delay in financial statement filing. Three board members also resigned in a worsening crisis at the edtech giant. Deloitte Haskins & Sells, which was supposed to audit Byju’s until 2025, resigned with “immediate effect” because “the financial statements of the company are long delayed.”

Deloitte wrote to the board of Think & Learn Pvt Ltd (Byju’s) that delays have prevented it from starting an audit, which will “significantly impact” its ability to “plan, design, perform and complete” the audit according to standards. Byju’s said BDO will help “uphold the highest standards of financial scrutiny and accountability” as its new auditor.

GV Ravishankar, MD of early-backer Peak XV Partners (previously Sequoia Capital India), Russell Dreisenstock of Prosus, and Chan Zuckerberg’s Vivian Wu resigned from Byju’s board, sources claimed. Directors resigned for unknown reasons. The original family—CEO Byju Raveendran, wife Divya Gokulnath, and brother Riju—now sits on Byju’s board.

A Byju’s spokeswoman denied media rumors of board resignations. “BYJU’S strongly disputes these claims and encourages media to stop spreading unverified information. Our company makes substantial changes.”

Byju’s delayed a USD 40 million repayment due earlier this month and sued its lenders for harassment in loan recovery. Deloitte Haskins and Sells told Byju’s board that it is resigning as Think & Learn’s auditor three years before the contract’s expiration due to a long delay in the edtech firm’s FY2021-22 financial statement.

The edtech firm also announced that BDO (MSKA & Associates) will be its statutory auditors for five years starting in 2022. Deloitte said it routinely wrote to Byju’s Managing Director Byju Raveendran with a copy to the board of directors but was unable to start the audit, thus it quit.

We can’t comment on the audit yet. Thus, we will struggle to organize, develop, conduct, and conclude the audit in compliance with auditing standards. “We are tendering our resignation as statutory auditors of the company with immediate effect,” Deloitte Haskins & Sells told Byju’s board.

Byju’s auditor is Deloitte. Reappointed for five years on April 1, 2020. Financial results for March 31, 2022 are delayed. “In accordance with the Companies Act, 2013, the audited financial statements for FY2021-22 were due to be laid before shareholders in the Annual General Meeting by September 30, 2022,” Deloitte added.

The audit company emailed Byju’s Managing Director Byju Raveendran and the board of directors on September 30, 2022, November 5, 2022, November 12, 2022, December 24, 2022, and March 29, 2023, for statutory audit for the year ended March 31, 2022.

The audit firm stated it did not get any communication on the resolution of audit report revisions for FY 2021 and the audit readiness of the financial statements and related documents for FY 2022. Byju’s audit was delayed while it awaited a new chief financial officer, according to anonymous sources.

Ajay Goel, Byju’s new group CFO, joined the company a month ago, and the audit will begin next week. The group-level audit is expected to be finished in the upcoming quarter, according to BYJU, and will be completed more quickly thanks to BDO’s experience serving as an auditor for BYJU’S subsidiaries.

BDO will audit the consolidated results for the entire group as well as the principal subsidiaries of Think and Learn Pvt Ltd, including Aakash Education Services Limited. According to Byju’s, “this thorough audit coverage will give a holistic view of BYJU’S financial performance and ensure transparency throughout the organization.”

Goel selected BDO as Byju’s auditors after a rigorous procedure. We confidently chose BDO as our auditors after a well-structured selection procedure. Their competence in auditing globally varied major enterprises makes them ideal for our company. “We are excited to collaborate with BDO to uphold the highest standards of financial scrutiny and accountability,” Goel stated.

ICICI, Cisco, IndusInd Bank, and BDO are among the top five global audit firms by turnover.

Conclusion

Deloitte, the auditors of Think & Learn Pvt Ltd (Byju’s), has resigned due to a delay in financial statement filing. The company’s financial statements are long delayed, preventing Deloitte from starting an audit. The board has also resigned three board members, including MDs of Peak XV Partners, Russell Dreisenstock of Prosus, and Vivian Wu of Chan Zuckerberg. The original family, CEO Byju Raveendran, wife Divya Gokulnath, and brother Riju, now sits on Byju’s board. Deloitte has been Byju’s statutory auditor since 2016, and the company’s March 31, 2022 financial results are late.

BDO (MSKA & Associates) will be its statutory auditors for five years starting in 2022. The audit will begin next week, with Ajay Goel, Byju’s new group CFO, joining the company. BDO’s experience as an auditor for BYJU’s subsidiaries ensures familiarity with the organization’s operations, enabling a streamlined completion of the group-level audit.

Ashwin Takes A Dig At Rohit & Team Management With MS Dhoni’s Example

0

A hurt Ashwin expresses his emotions by citing the example of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of the Indian cricket team, is under constant criticism because of his failure in making his team win big tournaments such as Asia Cup 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and recently the Indian squad also lost the WTC final under his leadership.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy skills were also questioned as he chose to exclude the Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin from the squad despite the fact he is currently the number one test bowler and he was the third highest wicket taker in this WTC cycle and the highest wicket taker when it comes to Indian bowlers with 61 wickets.

Many former cricketers slammed not only Rohit Sharma but the Indian head coach Rahul Dravid as well for this decision. Undoubtedly, Ravichandran Ashwin was also hurt and now he has taken a jibe at Rohit Sharma and the current Indian team management by citing the example of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, R Ashwin stated, “It is understandable that there’s a furore in India that we haven’t won an ICC trophy in 10 years. I empathise with the fans. But the reaction on social media is that this player should be dropped and that player should be included. But quality of a player doesn’t change overnight. Lot of us talk about MS Dhoni’s leadership. What did he do? He kept it very simple. Under his regime, where I also played, he will pick a squad of 15. The same squad of 15 and the XI will play throughput the year. That sense of security is very important for a player.”

Earlier in an interview, he also talked about the tag of overthinker which has been attached with him, he said, “A lot of people marketed me and positioned me that I am an overthinker. A person who will get 15-20 matches on the go doesn’t have to be mentally overthinking. A person who knows that they will get only two games will be traumatised and will be overthinking because it’s my job. It’s my journey. So this is what suits me. If somebody is going to tell me, ‘you’re going to play 15 matches, you will be looked after, you will be this, you are responsible for players, you are in the leadership role, I won’t be overthinking. Why would I?”

What do you think of Rohit Sharma’s captaincy at the international level?
