China signs $4.8B power plant deal with Pakistan; but IMF delays payment

China has signed a $4.8 billion deal to build a 1,200 megawatt nuclear power station in Pakistan. The Chashma nuclear power stations in Pakistan are essential for affordable nuclear energy. But, the IMF has delayed payment.

Although Pakistan is experiencing  severe financial difficulties, its steadfast ally China signed a massive $4.8 billion deal on Tuesday to build a 1,200 megawatt nuclear power facility. PM Shehbaz Sharif thanked Beijing for showing trust at a time when the country is experiencing unprecedented economic crisis, calling it a significant success in enhancing strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Beijing will build the 1,200-megawatt Chashma-V nuclear power facility in Mianwali, Punjab, under the new deal. PM Shehbaz Sharif has  pledged to complete the project on time. 

The Chinese government   spent a large amount of money on 3,000 km of infrastructure projects between Pakistan’s Balochistan province and northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region’s Gwadar Port. The undertaking is also marketed as CPEC. China suffered a significant loss in this project as a result of Pakistan’s failure to finish it by the deadline. However, this time, PM Sharif said that “we will kick start it without any further delay” in order to avoid upsetting Pakistan’s neighbor. He remarked while criticizing the former administration of Imran Khan for postponing the crucial power project.

According to him, this project received a $4.8 billion investment from China, which “sends the message that Pakistan is a place where Chinese companies and investors continue to show their trust and faith,” despite Pakistan’s challenging economic position. According to Sharif, the Chinese corporations provided specific privileges that would allow this project to save billions of rupees.

The Chashma nuclear power stations in Pakistan are essential for affordable nuclear energy. The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission reports 1,330 megawatts installed capacity for the four power stations. Pakistan has two additional nuclear power plants. The KANUPP 2 and KANUPP 3 nuclear power plants in Karachi each have a 2,290 megawatt capacity.

Without the backing of the IMF, Pakistan, which is heavily in debt, is unable to get bilateral aid or even multilateral financing. Saudi Arabia and the UAE have only offered Pakistan little backing, while only China has remained steadfast in its support.

In 2019, the IMF agreed to give Pakistan USD 6 billion in exchange for meeting a number of requirements. Due to the donor’s desire that Pakistan finish all legalities, the plan was repeatedly delayed, and the final payment is still pending. Since many years ago, Pakistan’s economy has been declining rapidly, putting unrelenting pressure on the underprivileged masses through unrestrained inflation and making it nearly difficult for a large number of people to make ends meet.

Now the actor has responded to the trolling, he was quite disappointed with the younger generation and called them nalli. Nawaz said, “Why will there be a problem? Romance is ageless. The problem is that the young men have no romance left. We are from the times when romance was something else. We would be in love and be in ‘ishq’ for years. Today, Shah Rukh Khan continues to do romantic roles because the young generation is ‘nalli’ (useless). They don’t know romance.”

He further said, “Everything today happens on WhatsApp, be it love or breakup. There is a reason behind this. People who have lived in romance can do romance. Who else will do it?”

According to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, the deal, with a list price of $55 billion, is the largest order in the history of civil aviation. The largest order in commercial aviation history will be placed by IndiGo, the largest airline in India, with Airbus for 500 A320 aircraft.”

This new order will provide IndiGo and Airbus’ strategic partnership a new level of depth and breadth. With this latest order, IndiGo has placed a staggering total of 1.330 aircraft orders with Airbus since its founding in 2006, the airline stated in a statement.

The airline claimed that its ‘strong focus’ on reducing operational expenses and delivering fuel efficiency with high standards of reliability’ will be able to be maintained thanks to the fuel-efficient A320NEO Family aircraft.

This purchase reinforces Indigo’s commitment to the A320 Family, India’s economic development, and our strategic alliance with Airbus, he continued.

“As of right now, IndiGo runs more than 300 aircraft and between now and the end of this decade, it still has 480 aircraft on order that will need to be delivered. With this further solid order for 500 aircraft for the years 2030–2035, over 1.000 aircraft still need to be delivered for IndiGo well into the following ten years. According to the company’s statement, this IndiGo order-book is made up of a mixture of A320NEO, A321NEO, and A321XLR aircraft.

On Monday, the manufacturer reported the news to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).The government import limitations, which continue to have an impact on the auto industry and have caused a shortage of inventories, were cited as the reason for the decision.

The warning stated that the motorcycle and vehicle plants would be shut down from June 22, 2023 to July 8, 2023 due to a shortage of inventory.

Earlier, PSMC had previously shut down its motorcycle plant. Due to a shortage of raw materials, the car assembler shut down both its motorbike and vehicle plants from May 2 to May 9.

Furthermore closed from April 7 to April 28 was the auto assembly factory. Suzuki motorcycles, sedans, pickup trucks, vans, 4x4s, and other vehicles are assembled, produced, and sold by PMSC along with any necessary replacement components.

Due to a decline in sales and hefty finance costs, the auto maker reported its highest-ever quarterly loss of Rs12.9 billion back in April. In the same period last year, the auto manufacturing company reported a loss of Rs460.227 million.

Several difficulties are now plaguing Pakistan’s auto industry. In recent months, the production of other publicly traded enterprises like Indus Motor Company Limited and Honda Atlas Cars has also been halted because of financial issues.

The government’s decision to limit imports and the issuance of Letters of Credit (LC) has had a significant negative impact on the nation’s auto industry, which is heavily dependent on imports. Higher borrowing costs and sharp price rises for cars have also decreased customer demand.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday sealed the rental home of Soro Section signal junior engineer (JE), marking a significant development in its investigation into the Odisha triple train accident.

A CBI team reportedly arrived at JE Amir Khan’s rental home in Soro on Monday and discovered that it was locked when they arrived. Later, they sealed Khan’s home.

Two CBI agents are reportedly also watching the house, according to a source. He had already been questioned by the CBI at an undisclosed location as part of their inquiry. However, the signal JE and his family appear to have left the rented house after the terrible accident at Bahanaga, which has so far claimed the lives of 292 passengers.

Agents from the CBI have also visited the station master’s residence in Bahanaga to conduct an investigation.

At around 7:00 p.m. on June 2, the Coromandel Express collided with a stopped freight train, derailing the majority of its coaches. The last few coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Express, which was passing by at the same time, were knocked over by a couple of them.

The problems of the makers of TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah are going to increase as on Tuesday (today), Mumbai Police has registered a case against producer Asit Kumarr Modi, operation head Sohail Ramani and executive producer Jatin Bajaj on the basis of the complaint of sexual harassment made by Jennifer Mistry, the actress who used to play the character of Mrs. Sodhi in the serial.

As per ANI, “Powai Police has registered a case against Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah producer Asit Modi, operation head Sohail Ramani, and executive producer Jatin Bajaj under sections 354 and 509 of the IPC based on a complaint by an actor of the show. No arrests have been made in this case so far: Mumbai Police”.

A Mumbai Police official states that they have received a written complaint by an actress and they have already recorded her statement. The official also states that Mumbai Police will soon call Asit Kumarr Modi for his statement in regard to this case.

Jennifer Mistry’s allegations of sexual harassment were refuted by Modi and other crew members and in return, they claimed that Jennifer misbehaved with everyone on the show. A statement was issued by the makers which read, “She (the actor) regularly misbehaved with the entire team on the show.

While moving out from the shoot, she rashly drove her car out at very high speed not caring for people in her way. She even damaged the set property. We had to terminate her contract because of her bad behaviour and indiscipline during the shoot. During this incident, Asit Ji was in the USA. She is now trying to defame us and the show by making baseless allegations. We have already filed our complaint against these baseless allegations with the concerned authorities.”
