The yellow and red cards have become an integral part of the game since their inception in the 1970 FIFA World Cup. A lot of fans were left confused with the purpose and use of the white card. It was introduced during a women’s cup quarter-final encounter between Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

Few football fans are unfamiliar with the yellow and red cards, but the world was introduced to the white card during a women’s cup quarter-final match between Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

With Benfica leading 3-0 soon before halftime, Portuguese referee Catarina Campos chose to issue the white card, prompting a raucous applause from the Estadio da Luz crowd.

Since its introduction in the 1970 FIFA World Cup, the yellow and red cards have been an essential component of the game, but many fans have been perplexed by the meaning and use of the white card.

The white card is used to recognise instances of fair play on the field, according to a new initiative introduced by Portugal’s National Plan for Ethics in Sport (PNED).

The pilot experiment was carried out in the Portuguese leagues under the supervision of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).

Aside from the white card, the Portuguese football officials have implemented concussion substitutions as well as extended stoppage time as a disincentive to teams who try to squander time.

A spectator in the stands grew sick and fainted during the match between Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

Both teams’ medics raced to the stands to address the issue, and the fan was treated within a few minutes.

The white card was shown in recognition of the medics.

Benfica went on to win the game 5-0 in front of a record attendance in Portugal for a women’s football game.

Gandhi Vs Shahrukh: Rajkumar Santoshi’ film gets low opening due to star power

0

The people of India seem to have forgotten the sacrifices given by our freedom fighters as well as the value of independence. More than Netaji and Mahatma Gandhi, Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh and Salman Khan have become the heroes of today’s Indians. This can be seen from the box office collection of Rajkumar Santoshi’s directorial debut, Gandhi Godse EK Yudh, that had a significantly low opening as compared to Shahrukh Khan’s Pathan.

Gandhi Godse EK Yudh, has had a rocky start at the box office. The supremacy of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan at the box office had a significant impact on the picture. Despite a decent-sized release on a holiday (Republic Day), the historical drama only made Rs 80 lakhs on its first day.

Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh is a fictionalised account about Mahatma Gandhi surviving Nathuram Godse’s murder attempt. The film follows these two as they meet and engage in an intellectual and ideological conflict. Deepak Antani and Chinmay Mandlekar feature in the film, which also marks the debut of the director’s daughter Tanisha Santoshi.

According to Sacnilk, the film grossed Rs 80 lakh net throughout India on Wednesday, its release day. The picture was at a disadvantage since it conflicted with Pathaan, Yash Raj Films’ blockbuster actioner.

Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh was released on barely 300 screens across India because to Pathaan dominating the majority of the screens. However, it received extremely low footfall, with only 18% occupancy on the day of its release. In comparison, managed 65% occupancy over roughly 5000 screens on the day.

The Shah Rukh Khan picture shattered all records in its first two days, prompting several exhibitors to increase their shows and screens, which is bad news for Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh.

Early indications do not bode well for the Santoshi picture. As things currently stand, it may struggle to even exceed Rs 10-crore in its lifetime. That is hardly surprising given the film’s genre and lack of star power. Poor reviews and nearly non-existent word of mouth haven’t helped. The film may just have to wait till it is available on streaming services in a few weeks to find an audience.

Here’s why heart attacks are rapidly increasing in young India

0

India’s cardiologists say that over the past decade there has been a rapid rise in heart attacks in people aged 25-55 in India and the issue has been exacerbated after COVID-19, the country’s first nuclear power station was set up in 1998.

The sad death of singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known by his stage as KK, after a heart attack has refocused attention on the worrisome rise in the deadly ailment among Indians under the age of 60.

KK, 53, had just finished a concert in Kolkata on the evening of May 31 when he fainted in his hotel room, complaining of chest trouble and unease. When he arrived at the hospital for treatment, he was confirmed dead.

Cardiologists believe his death is another example of how cardiac arrests are becoming more prevalent in Indians under the age of 60, as they are in other developing nations.

Sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise, stress, smoking and alcohol intake, lack of sufficient sleep, and poor food choices have all been linked to an increase in heart disease.

Underlying disorders such as hypertension and diabetes, which are frequently undetected, significantly enhance the chances.

According to a research released this year in India, the number of persons suffering from heart attacks has nearly quadrupled in the previous 20 years, with 25% of these people being under the age of 40.

Evergreen Marine Corp.  celebrates success by granting 4 years’ salary as bonus

0

Taiwan’s biggest shipping company, Maersk, is rewarding its staff with bonuses equal to 50 months’ salary, or more than four years’ pay, on average.

Evergreen Marine Corp. of Taiwan is celebrating a successful year by rewarding outstanding incentives to some of its employees.

According to a person acquainted with the situation, the Taipei-based shipping firm is giving out year-end bonuses equal to 50 months’ income, or more than four years’ compensation, on average.

The quantity of the incentive varies depending on an employee’s job grade and function, and the outsized awards are only available to workers with Taiwan-based contracts, according to the individual, who did not want to be identified since the specifics are secret.

Year-end incentives have always been based on the company’s overall success as well as individual employee performance, Evergreen Marine said in a statement, declining to explain.

Evergreen Marine’s generosity is the outcome of an unparalleled industry-wide shipping boom over the last two years, spurred by a pandemic-fueled rise in consumer goods demand and freight rates.

The company’s revenue is predicted to more than treble in 2022 to a record NT$634.6 billion ($20.7 billion).

Evergreen Marine, which made headlines in early 2021 for all the wrong reasons when one of its ships became trapped in the Suez Canal, disrupting supply systems, gave employees incentives of up to 52 months’ salary, according to Taipei’s news.

Some employees received compensation totaling more than $65,000 on December 30, according to the news site, which did not specify where the information came from.

However, not everyone on the Evergreen Marine team has been that fortunate. Its Shanghai-based employees have complained about unfair treatment after receiving bonuses ranging from five to eight times their monthly pay, according to Caixin, citing local workers.

However, the most recent pay day may be the last for the foreseeable future. Shipping companies have warned that this year’s profits will be harmed by sharply slowing global growth and declining freight prices.

Evergreen Marine’s shares dropped 54% last year after skyrocketing 250% in 2021.

India’s population explodes more than China’s; Details here

0

India has overtaken China to become the most populous country in the world, as per estimates. According to projections from the World Population Review (WPR), India’s population was 141.7 crore as of the end of 2022.

In terms of population, India may have already surpassed China as the world’s most populated country. According to World Population Review (WPR) forecasts, India’s population would be 141.7 crore by the end of 2022.

According to official declarations, this is little more than 50 lakh higher than the 141.2 crore stated by China on January 17, when there was the first dip since the 1960s. With half of its population under 30, India is predicted to be the world’s fastest-growing major economy.

According to the UN, the milestone was intended to be reached later this year. According to World Population Report, India’s population climbed to 142.3 crore people in January 2018.

WPR forecasts that, while India’s population growth has moderated, it will continue to rise until at least 2050.

According to a separate estimate from the research platform Macrotrends, the most current statistic for India is 142.8 crore.

The country did not issue its once-every-ten-year census figures after deferring population surveys due to pandemic disruptions in 2021.

Despite the country’s relatively excellent recovery from the epidemic and its quick economic boom prior to COVID-19, free food rations are still used by around 80 crore people in India.

The third-largest economy in Asia is presently food self-sufficient. It ranks second in rice, wheat, and sugar production. It is the largest importer of edible oils as well as the top user of sugar.

India is the world’s third-largest buyer of crude oil, as well as the world’s second-largest consumer of steel and gold. It is also the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market.

Economist Eric Zhu described China’s current mild recession as a “growth crushing headwind for a long time” in his January 18 report.

According to National Statistics Bureau data, China’s population would drop by 8.5 lakh in 2022 compared to the previous year.

This retired teacher has helped poor students with crores of scholarships by age 80

0

K Narayana Naik has been on a mission to help millions of students pursue higher education by providing them access to scholarships for the past 21 years.

Narayana Naik leaves his residence at 8 a.m. every day and rides his ancient Honda Dream cycle to schools, universities, government agencies, and private organisations. It’s after 6 p.m. by the time he gets home.

“I visited about 200 schools in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi alone last year,” the 80-year-old claims.

Naik, from Karpe village in Dakshina Kannada’s Bantwal taluk, has been on a one-of-a-kind mission, granting scholarships to high school and college students.

Every day, he visits schools, universities, and students’ homes, orienting and communicating with them and directing them to the appropriate scholarships.

The retired government high school teacher, known to most as the “scholarship master,” has touched the lives of over a lakh children over the last few decades, presenting them with scholarships worth crores.

Naik, who retired in 2001 after a 38-year teaching career, preferred to spend his elderly years actively immersed in social work rather than at home with his children and grandkids.

Naik earns a Rs 40,000 pension and spends more than half of it on travel costs. He believes that education is the key to success and that it is therefore critical to take advantage of all available chances.

Growing up in a poor farming household, Naik recounts the difficulties he had in pursuing an education.

Naik went on to earn B Ed and MA degrees in Kannada and Hindi after travelling roughly 16 kilometres daily to school barefoot.

At the age of 20, he began his profession as a primary school teacher. He afterwards worked as a high school teacher and a school inspector before retiring.

There are several sorts of scholarships available to students depending on various criteria. He also links poor kids with various NGOs and foundations to assist them with scholarships or sponsorships.

Hariprasad Shetty, head of Government First Grade College in Vamadapadavu, has known him for the last 25 years and describes him as one of the most unselfish people he has ever encountered.

Dr. Yogish Kairodi, a lecturer at Alva’s College in Moodubidire, Karnataka, remembers how Narayan Naik assisted him in pursuing his post-graduate studies by securing him a scholarship.
