This retired teacher has helped poor students with crores of scholarships by age 80

0

K Narayana Naik has been on a mission to help millions of students pursue higher education by providing them access to scholarships for the past 21 years.

Narayana Naik leaves his residence at 8 a.m. every day and rides his ancient Honda Dream cycle to schools, universities, government agencies, and private organisations. It’s after 6 p.m. by the time he gets home.

“I visited about 200 schools in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi alone last year,” the 80-year-old claims.

Naik, from Karpe village in Dakshina Kannada’s Bantwal taluk, has been on a one-of-a-kind mission, granting scholarships to high school and college students.

Every day, he visits schools, universities, and students’ homes, orienting and communicating with them and directing them to the appropriate scholarships.

The retired government high school teacher, known to most as the “scholarship master,” has touched the lives of over a lakh children over the last few decades, presenting them with scholarships worth crores.

Naik, who retired in 2001 after a 38-year teaching career, preferred to spend his elderly years actively immersed in social work rather than at home with his children and grandkids.

Naik earns a Rs 40,000 pension and spends more than half of it on travel costs. He believes that education is the key to success and that it is therefore critical to take advantage of all available chances.

Growing up in a poor farming household, Naik recounts the difficulties he had in pursuing an education.

Naik went on to earn B Ed and MA degrees in Kannada and Hindi after travelling roughly 16 kilometres daily to school barefoot.

At the age of 20, he began his profession as a primary school teacher. He afterwards worked as a high school teacher and a school inspector before retiring.

There are several sorts of scholarships available to students depending on various criteria. He also links poor kids with various NGOs and foundations to assist them with scholarships or sponsorships.

Hariprasad Shetty, head of Government First Grade College in Vamadapadavu, has known him for the last 25 years and describes him as one of the most unselfish people he has ever encountered.

Dr. Yogish Kairodi, a lecturer at Alva’s College in Moodubidire, Karnataka, remembers how Narayan Naik assisted him in pursuing his post-graduate studies by securing him a scholarship.

Personality development: Top 5 habits to check your smartness

0

There are many people whom everyone calls smart on seeing them. Know what kind of habits can be called the identity of a smart person.

A person’s work, conversation, and comprehension demonstrate that he is smart or intelligent. When we witness a clever guy, we want to emulate his routines and demeanour. We figure we may as well start looking like this. However, intelligence does not develop overnight. A person’s knowledge and comprehension must be expanded by always going forward, reading, and learning new things. Here are some examples of such practises that demonstrate a person’s intelligence. If you have these behaviours, you could be brilliant, but you might not recognise it.

Smart individuals have the habit of never being afraid to ask questions. By asking questions, you may clear up any uncertainty and reduce your chances of making mistakes. Making mistakes without knowing the proper solution is dumb, however knowing the answer and not making the same mistake is a sign of intelligence. Inquiring demonstrates that a person is curious, and curiosity is also an indication of intelligence.

A person who believes he is flawless, perfect, and knows everything seldom learns new things, and his attitude to new things is likewise incorrect. A sensible person, on the other hand, never allows his confidence to evolve into arrogance. He attempts to learn new things and improve himself without demonstrating that he is unique or unusual.

Whether it is reading newspapers, novels, or blogs, clever individuals have been characterised as spending time reading and writing. It is beneficial to maintain reading in order to do better at any task. This allows you to learn and grasp new things while also exercising your intellect, which is really different.

Continuing to praise and call oneself clever is not an indication of intelligence. Such individuals do not value understanding and do not spread it. A clever guy use wisdom without exaggerating it.

A sensible person has the identity of being so preoccupied with his own job and life that he does not care about other people or things. These people are preoccupied with their own lives, and even when they are not, they dislike peering into the lives of others.

Fintech app KarmaLife offers winning idea to gig workers in 2023

0

According to a research issued last year by NITI Aayog, India’s gig labour would number 7.7 million in 2020-21, rising to 23.5 million by 2029-30. According to job search site Indeed, the gig economy in India is expected to generate 9-11 million people by 2025.

KarmaLife was formed in 2020 by Rohit Rathi, Naveen Budda, and Badal Malick to help the disadvantaged gig economy people. The fintech platform offers earnings-linked financing to assist pay unforeseen needs and operate day-to-day lives more responsibly to gig workers, contractors, self-employed persons, entrepreneurs, and others.

The roots for Karmalife were established in Rohit’s imagination in 2017, when a landlord reduced the upfront payment to rent a residence after recognising him (Rohit) as a successful entrepreneur who had previously gotten financing from Sachin Tendulkar.

Rohit intended to make the trust and belief that led to the landlord dropping his asking price the foundation of his next foray into the financial sector. He then brought on board Naveen, his Smarton colleague, and Badal, whom he met through a mutual acquaintance.

After leaving Smarton in 2018, Rohit saw that the booming gig economy presented several chances to establish a fintech platform that might accelerate financial inclusion.

COVID-19 merely boosted their economic contribution and aided in the expansion of KarmaLife’s business.

Although the creators began working on KarmaLife in 2019, the firm was not registered until 2020. That year was devoted analysing the market to determine what would and would not succeed.

When developing a product for gig workers, the entrepreneur claims there is a prejudice about the creditworthiness of the users. Unlike a typical bank, which offers services such as loans based on a set of fixed criteria, KarmaLife’s concept is based on dynamicity. It tracks its users’ trips, payment habits, and a variety of other behavioural factors, and then provides financial services based on those readings.

It basically pulls from the Indian cultural theory of Karma, which is the rule that determines an individual’s future based on good or bad deeds. The team then piloted its solution with a well-known firm, with 700 of the 2,000 gig workers using it.

The pilot demonstrated that persons who obtained loans but were unable to pay would actively seek extensions and ensure that the money was repaid. According to the team, the firm gained 700% year on year in terms of disbursement and revenue during the December quarter.

In terms of typical user usage, which includes the company’s capacity to underwrite consumers for a bigger amount and users that require free access, it has also increased from Rs 3,200 to Rs 13,000-Rs 14,000 per user, per month. The credit limit provided by the firm is now 70% of the user’s profits – this varies with each cycle.

KarmaLife is currently attempting to broaden its user base beyond delivery personnel to include security guards and insurance salespeople. The team is also working on a few new products/features, including a longer-term product that allows users to obtain a larger ticket loan (in trial phases). It intends to launch a savings/investment programme within the next three months.

How diagnosis & prevention can help you stop cervical cancer from happening

0

A well-balanced, nutrient-dense diet can also include antioxidants to help the immune system fight HPV, which can be caused by exposure to the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Cervical cancer screening is recommended earlier in life and more regularly in individuals at high risk of cervical cancer than in those at moderate risk.

Cervical cancer cannot be avoided entirely. However, taking the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and undergoing routine testing can significantly reduce one’s risk. Making certain dietary changes, stopping smoking, and employing barrier protection practises during sexual activity can all assist to reduce the risk.

If available, the HPV vaccine and routine testing are the two most important things you can do to prevent cervical cancer. The most common kind of cervical cancer is caused by precancerous changes, and there are ways to prevent it from advancing. Pre-malignancies can be discovered and treated before they advance to invasive cancers in the first phase, and they can also be prevented in the second.

Cervical screening is the detection of cervical pre-cancers. Cervical cancer screening tests are a tried-and-true means of avoiding the disease. Screening is the process of testing for conditions that may cause cancer and detecting pre-tumors before they grow into invasive cancers. The human papillomavirus (HPV) test and the Pap test are two of the specific tests used in cervical cancer screening (or Pap smear). These tests are conducted using the same procedure. A medical professional gently brushes or scrapes the cervix using a specific device to collect cells for examination. If a pre-cancer is detected, it can be treated and prevented from progressing to cervical cancer.

The HPV test detects infections caused by high-risk HPV strains (16 and 18), which are more likely to cause cervical pre-malignancies and cancers. Some HPV tests are approved for use as main HPV testing, while others are approved as co-tests. You may obtain a certain kind more frequently depending on the test alternatives available in your area.

The Pap test, often known as a smear, is a method that takes cervix cells and examines them under a microscope in a lab to screen for cancer and pre-cancer. It is critical to understand that the majority of invasive cervical cancers are detected in women who do not receive Pap tests on a regular basis. A Pap test may be included in a pelvic examination, although not all pelvic examinations do.

The results of the HPV test, together with the results of prior tests, define your risk of developing cervical cancer. If the test findings are positive, extra follow-up sessions, more cancer or pre-cancer tests, and, in some cases, surgery to treat any pre-cancers may be required.

It is critical to discuss the specifics of your screening test findings with your healthcare practitioner in order to completely understand your risk of developing cervical cancer and the best course of action.

Preventing Pre-Cancers and Cancer: What You Can Do

Depending on your age, general health, and personal risk for cervical cancer, there are numerous things you may take to avoid pre-cancers and scenarios that lead to pre-cancers.

An HPV vaccination: There are vaccinations available to protect children and adolescents from certain HPV infections. These immunisations provide protection against the HPV strains most often associated with cancer, as well as types that can cause anal and genital warts. These immunisations only serve to prevent HPV infection; they do not treat an existing infection. As a result, HPV vaccines should be given before a person is exposed to HPV (such as through sexual contact).

Limit your HPV exposure: HPV is spread from person to person by skin-to-skin contact with an infected body part. Even while vaginal, anal, and oral sex can transfer HPV during skin-to-skin contact, sex is not required for the virus to spread. All that is necessary is skin-to-skin contact with an HPV-infected body part. As a result, the virus can spread without the necessity for sexual activity. Even hand-to-genital contact can result in the spread of a genital infection. Furthermore, it appears that HPV infection can spread from one body location to another. As a result, an infection might start in the cervix and spread to the vagina and vulva.

Use a condom: While condoms (“rubbers”) can provide some HPV protection, they cannot completely prevent infection. Condoms do not provide complete protection against HPV since they do not cover all body areas that may be impacted, such as the genital or anal skin. Condoms, on the other hand, assist protect against HIV and numerous other STDs while also providing some protection against HPV.

Smoking should be avoided: Quitting smoking is another important step in decreasing your risk of cervical cancer and pre-cancer. Tobacco use can weaken the immune system, making it more difficult for the body to eliminate cancer cells. These poisons can also change or damage a cell’s DNA, resulting in the development of a tumour. Smoking in public and having a smoking spouse can both increase the risk of cancer.

Career at risk of ODI hero who turned India’s biggest villain in T20!

0

India lost the first match of the three-match T20 series 1-0 to New Zealand. This was India’s first defeat in Dhoni’s hometown Ranchi. Apart from Washington Sundar, no player could do anything special for India.

On Friday, the first of three T20 matches between India and New Zealand was played in Ranchi. The New Zealand team beat India in this match. This was India’s first T20 defeat in Dhoni’s birthplace of Ranchi. With this setback, Team India has fallen behind 1-0 in the series. Apart from Washington Sundar, no other player could make an impression for India. Team India could only score 155 runs while pursuing New Zealand’s aim of 177. There was one player in this match who the fans had great hopes for, but he disappointed everyone with his performance in T20. This player was outstanding in the recent ODI series.

However, in T20, this player’s bat has been entirely quiet. If this pattern persists, he may be dropped from the T20 squad. The management wants to give this guy, who was a standout for Team India in the ODI series against New Zealand, a go at T20 cricket. However, this guy continues to be a bust. Shubman Gill is the subject of our discussion.

Gill caused terror in the last ODI series, but his bat appears to be mute in T20. Gill got only 7 runs in the opening T20 against New Zealand. While Gill is setting records in ODIs one after the other, he is a dud in T20s. this trend continues, his T20 career will be jeopardised. Prithvi Shaw would have to wait for a berth in the playing 11 because to Shubman, according to Team India skipper Hardik Pandya. Shubman, though, crushed the captain’s aspirations.

Shubman Gill, India’s standout batter, continues to blow opportunities in T20 cricket. Gill may be dropped from the T20 team due to a lack of runs with the bat. In T20 cricket, there are several players that can step in for Gill. Players like as Prithvi Shaw and Rituraj Gaikwad can step in for Gill as openers. Both of these guys have lately experienced a lot of success in domestic cricket. At the same time, these guys’ strike rates have been amazing.

Gill has appeared in four T20 International matches for India. He has only scored 65 runs at an average of 16.45 in these. India won the toss in this match and choose to bowl. The New Zealand squad, who batted first, took an aggressive approach. Despite the quick start, the Kiwis only managed 176 runs in 20 overs. When Team India came down to chase the 177-run target, they lost three wickets in a row. India’s score at one point was three wickets for 15 runs. Suryakumar Yadav, the world’s top T20 batsman, took charge from there, but after his wicket fell, India’s innings failed once more, and Team India was forced to forfeit the match.
