WhatsApp bans over 66 lac bad accounts; gets 7,893 complaint reports from Indian users

In the month of June, Meta’s instant messaging service WhatsApp took action to comply with India’s IT Rules 2021. During this time, the messaging giant in India banned 66 lakh malicious accounts. 2,434,200 of these accounts were proactively banned before any user complaints were made.

Additionally, an unprecedented 7,893 complaint reports from Indian users were received in June, according to WhatsApp’s monthly compliance report. In response to 337 of these reports, WhatsApp took action, which may have resulted in the suspension or restoration of an account.

The company stated that its efforts were directed on assuring platform user safety. Their research contains information on user complaints and WhatsApp’s responses, as well as the business’s own safeguards against misuse on the network.

According to reports, the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) was involved in regulating India’s digital environment. The GAC issued one order to WhatsApp in June, and the firm complied.

The GAC was recently established by the Indian government to resolve problems made by social media users over content and other matters. The committee will consider user appeals that challenge social media network rulings. This action is a part of the government’s efforts to tighten digital regulations and control Big Tech firms operating in the nation.

In order to foster an open, secure, dependable, and responsible online environment, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has proposed revisions to protect the rights of “Digital Nagriks” (Digital Citizens).

As a bug-fix update resolving the call quality issue, the platform has also just put out the WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.23.16.11 version. Users won’t experience these problems and may expect enhanced call performance.
