When Aamir Khan Rejected Abbas Tyrewala’s Idea For Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na Sequel

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008) remains one of Abbas Tyrewala’s most iconic films, but what about a sequel to this beloved rom-com? In a recent chat with Cyrus Broacha on his YouTube channel, the filmmaker shared his experience pitching a follow-up to the film, which starred Imran Khan and Genelia Deshmukh. Tyrewala revealed that Aamir Khan wasn’t exactly thrilled with the direction he proposed for the sequel.

Tyrewala recalled the humorous encounter, explaining how he pitched the idea of Jai and Aditi, the central characters, parting ways. “Shortly after Jaane Tu, I came up with an idea for the sequel. Even I wasn’t sure if I was joking or not,” he said. The sequel’s plot involved Jai and Aditi living separately, with Jai having an affair with Meghna, a character from the original film. However, Aamir Khan, who co-produced the original, firmly rejected the idea. “Aamir said, ‘I don’t care who makes the sequel to Jaane Tu, it will never be you.’ He said this is the stupidest thing,” Tyrewala shared, laughing.

The success of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na wasn’t just due to the chemistry between Imran Khan and Genelia D’Souza. The film featured a talented ensemble cast, including Prateik Babbar, Manjari Fadnis, Murali Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, and others. Their performances added depth and charm to the film’s story. Additionally, special appearances by Arbaaz and Sohail Khan brought an extra layer of fun, making the movie even more memorable.

Co-produced by Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na continues to hold a special place in Bollywood, thanks to its unforgettable cast and heartwarming story.
