A week after the birth of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s daughter Aaradhya Bachchan in November 2011, the family returned home from the hospital in Mumbai. To address media curiosity while maintaining their privacy, the Bachchan family held a press conference at their Juhu office, ABC Corp. During the event, Amitabh Bachchan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the media for respecting their privacy during this special moment in their lives.
When asked about their newborn daughter, who hadn’t been named at the time, Amitabh shared a sentimental moment about their first trip as a family. “We first took her to Pratiksha because that is our first home,” he said, referring to the family’s residence in Mumbai. He also added that they sought blessings from his late parents, whom he lovingly referred to as “ma and babuji.” Abhishek revealed that their first stop with their daughter was at the family’s mandir at Pratiksha, built by his grandfather.
Reflecting on who the child resembled, Amitabh, with a smile, said he believed the newborn looked like Aishwarya. “I think the child looks like Aishwarya, but as you know, a child’s face changes every day. Still, I want to believe that she has Aishwarya’s face,” he said. However, Amitabh also noted that some family members saw a resemblance to Abhishek.
Amitabh Bachchan opened up about the joy of welcoming a granddaughter, mentioning that both Jaya and Abhishek had hoped for a daughter. “Jaya has given all her time to the child and is very happy that a daughter has been born. Abhishek also wanted a daughter,” he said. Amitabh, however, emphasized that he had no preference and was simply grateful for the new addition to the family.
Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s relationship blossomed from friendship into romance while working together on films like Dhai Akshar Prem Ke (2000) and Kuch Naa Kaho (2003). Their love deepened during the filming of Umrao Jaan in 2005-2006, leading to their wedding on April 20, 2007, in a grand ceremony.
