Neetu Kapoor has fondly recalled her time working alongside Amitabh Bachchan in the film Yaarana, particularly highlighting the iconic song Sara Zamana Haseeno Ka Deewana. This classic number featured Amitabh in the memorable bulb-studded black leather jacket and was filmed in Kolkata. Despite being part of the music video, Neetu chose to leave the shoot early and return to Mumbai, driven by her desire to be close to her fiancé, Rishi Kapoor.
In her reflections, Neetu shared how emotional she felt during the Kolkata shoot. She recounted sitting with Amitabh while tears streamed down her face, expressing her longing to return to Rishi. The communication difficulties at the time, particularly the non-functioning phones, contributed to her distress, as Rishi was unable to reach her. Amitabh noticed her tears and inquired about her feelings. Neetu explained her wish to go back, to which he reassured her that she would indeed return as he said that, “she will”.
Demonstrating his supportive nature, Amitabh took the initiative to contact the film’s producer, requesting that a ticket be arranged for Neetu’s return to Bombay. He assured her that the team could manage the song without her. As a result, Neetu ended up appearing only in the first half of the song before her character disappeared.
The love story between Neetu Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor culminated in a celebrated wedding in 1980, marking the union of two beloved figures in Bollywood. Their relationship, which blossomed over several years, was characterized by a strong on-screen chemistry that translated seamlessly into their personal lives. Their wedding was a joyous occasion, surrounded by close friends and colleagues from the film industry. Over the years, Neetu and Rishi became one of Bollywood’s most cherished couples, though their journey was marked by tragedy when Rishi passed away from leukemia on April 30, 2020, at the age of 67.
