The senior actress Rani Mukerji is one of the most successful actresses of the Indian film industry and she is one of those few actresses who have the capability to carry the whole movie on their shoulders. Rani has worked with many big directors of the industry including Yash Chopra, they both have collaborated quite a few times and every time, they have given a masterpiece to the audiences.
Saathiya is one of the most beautiful movies which was produced by Yash Chopra. Rani Mukerji played the female lead opposite Vivek Oberoi in the film which was directed by Shaad Ali. However, initially Rani Mukerji refused to work in Saathiya after which Yash Chopra did the unthinkable.
During an old interview, Rani Mukerji revealed that after Mujhse Dosti Karoge flopped, she was without work for around eight months as she used to say no to every offer. Rani stated, “At that time, (I was) refusing work, like my mother thought I had gone mad because anything that was getting offered to me I was just like ‘no, no, no’. I started taking decisions then. I just sat at home”.
She further stated, “A lot of film critics and magazines had written me off and they said ‘her career’s over’ and I was okay with that. I was like probably they are right but I’m not going to give up. I’m going to take up something that my heart believes in. Then luckily Saathiya came along and I remember Yash (Chopra) uncle calling my parents to the office. My parents had gone to tell Yash uncle that ‘Rani is not interested to do this film’. He called me up and said, ‘Beta, you’re making a very big mistake. I’m locking the door of my room and I’m not letting your parents out till you say yes to the film’. And I thank him for that.”
Saathiya which was the remake of a Tamil movie, Alai Payuthey which was directed by Mani Ratnam and the Hindi version was a big hit at the box-office. Presently, Rani is married to Yash Chopra’s elder son Aditya Chopra and they both have a daughter who they have named Adira.
