Winter Break Hits Delhi Schools for the Next 5 Days

Delhi schools up to class 5 will be closed for the next five days due to the chilly weather.

The Delhi administration canceled a previous decree extending winter vacation in all of the country’s capital’s schools. Shortly after it was released, it was reversed. The Department of Education made it clear that the previous directive, which had prolonged winter vacation, had been sent out in error. On January 8, a decision was expected to be made about the subject. Order No.DE.23 (3)/Sch.Br./2024/18, dated January 6, 2024, addressing the prolongation of winter vacation, is withdrawn with immediate effect, according to the amended order.

Citing “extreme cold waves and IMD’s yellow alert,” the Arvind Kejriwal government’s prior decree extended the winter vacation to January 10 for all government-aided and unaided accredited private schools in the national capital territory (NCT). At 15.2 degrees Celsius, the daytime maximum was reached. 8.9 degrees was the low early in the morning.

Cool situations

Delhi was earlier hit by cold weather, with a minimum temperature of 8.3 degrees Celsius on January 2—a degree above average. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that Delhi has previously recorded a low temperature of 6 degrees Celsius.

Up to January 7, RWFC Delhi projected chilly to freezing day weather in select locations in Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Dense to very dense fog was also anticipated in certain isolated spots.

Winter break early

In November, from November 9 to November 18, the Delhi government declared an early winter vacation for schools. The degree of air pollution rose to “severe.” The announcement stated, “Due to air pollution, all schools’ December winter vacation has been rescheduled to take place from November 9–18.
